Dorothy Athaline Kempton, 78, of Salina, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, May 14th, 2013.
Dorothy was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on February 11, 1935, daughter of the late Jessie Athaline (Pickard) Yawn and Carl Nelson Cooney.
She was a member of First Southern Baptist Church Salina, Kansas.
Survivors include husband Earl Kempton of the home, daughter, Pamela Bremenkamp, and husband, Anthony “Tony”, of Brewster, Kansas; son, Bryan Kempton, and wife Karen, of Salina, Kansas; 5 Grandchildren, 6 Great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by brothers, Edward Nelson Cooney, Carl Melvin Cooney, David Lawrence Cooney, Virlen Cooney.
At the family’s request there will be no visitation as cremation has taken place.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, May 20, 2013 at Carlson-Geisendorf Funeral Home, Salina.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Southern Baptist Church Building Fund or Christian Broadcasting Network.

SALT LAKE CITY — Helen Harper, 95, rejoined her husband, Jesse; her parents, Frank Franklin West and Elsie Riley; and sisters, Gladys, Bernice and Marjorie, on Saturday, May 11, 2013. Helen was born Dec. 18, 1917, in Bavaria, Kan., and died in Salt Lake City. Her funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 20, at University Methodist Church, Salina, Kan.
Helen attended Crown Point Grade School near Salina and graduated from Salina High School in 1936. She worked in Salina until she and Jesse were married in 1938. They shared 60 years together. Helen and Jesse lived on East Cloud Street in Salina where they raised three children, Jerry (Jerald), Dana and Dorothy. She moved to Salt Lake City in 2009 to be near her older daughter, Dana.
Helen took her role as a homemaker and mother seriously and served her family and community in many ways, including taking leadership roles in 4-H, the Progressive Home Demonstration Unit, Friendly Neighbors Club and women’s ministries at University Methodist Church in Salina.
She loved to grow flowers, especially roses. Even when living in a retirement setting, she tended a rose garden outside her window.
Helen is survived by her son, Jerry, of Sugar Land, Texas, and daughters, Dana Hughes, of Salt Lake City, and Dorothy Barrons, of Boise, Idaho. She has six grandchildren, Wade, Lee and Dan Harper, Tracie Johnson and Kristi Quadrato, and Michael Hughes; and nine great-grandchildren.

Joyce Fern Johnson, 79, of Salina, died Tuesday May 14, 2013. She was born Nov. 12, 1933, in Verdi, the daughter of Clarence and Fern (Reigle) Johnson.
Joyce attended Verdi Grade School and graduated from Bennington High School. She worked as a clerk for Planter’s State Bank and as a bookkeeper for Graves Truck Line. She was also a farm homemaker.
She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, the Phoebe Ladies Group and the Quilting Group. She enjoyed sewing, reading and gardening.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Loyd Sheffler; her second husband, Joseph Johnson; and infant daughter, Janice Kay Sheffler.
Survivors include a sister, Betty Maynard, of Wichita; nephew, Stephen Traulsen, of Michigan; two nieces, Rebecca Lambert and Linda Funk, both of Wichita; brother, C.R. (Susan) Johnson, of Wells; two stepsons, Robert Johnson, of Bennington, and Richard (Janet) Johnson, of Minneapolis; and several stepgrandchildren.
Viewing and visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, May 16, at Ryan Mortuary, Salina. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 19, at Ryan Mortuary. Private burial will be in Highland Cemetery, New Cambria. Memorials are to Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Cindy Louise Theel, 37, of Salina, died Saturday, May 11, 2013. She was born July 21, 1975, in Salina, the daughter of John and Carolyn (Svaty) Hutchins. She was a medical coder for Comcare and, later, Mowrey Clinic.
Cindy was preceded in death by her father, John Hutchins. She is survived by her husband, Chris; grandmother, Edna Thomas, of Salina; mother, Carolyn Hutchins, of Salina; brothers, John Hutchins, of Spring Hill, and Matt Hutchins, of Topeka; and two nieces, Ainsley and Avery Hutchins.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 18, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Salina. Ryan Mortuary, Salina, is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the church or Col. Potter Cairn Terrier Rescue Network.

Elsie M. Kashkin, 86, of Salina, died Saturday, May 11, 2013. She was born May 31, 1926, in Hudson, N.Y., to Arthur Wheeler and Myra Unson.
She was married to Arthur E. Turner, who preceded her in death on Aug. 14, 1974. She married Leon P. Kashkin on June 14, 1980.
Elsie worked for Montgomery Ward and then retired from Alco in 1990.
She was a past president of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and a member of First Christian Church.
She is survived by her husband, Leon; two daughters, Elaine Onori, of Henderson, Nev., and Diane Turner, of Salina; son, Mark (Gail) Turner, of Salina; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Elsie was also blessed to add five stepchildren to her family when she married Leon: Michael Kashkin and family, Vernon Kaskin and family, Tania (Dennis) Brooks and Katrina Von Fange, all of Salina, and Carla Emerson and family, of Hays.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, May 16, with the family receiving friends from 6-7 p.m., at Ryan Mortuary. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 17, at First Christian Church.
