Obituaries – November 20, 2016

vet_ffffff1751_lakejames_2016-11-19James E. “Pappy” Lake, 83, passed away Saturday, November 19th, in Abilene. He was born August 11, 1933 in Manchester, the son of Clifford and Beulah (Coup) Lake. Growing up in the area, Jim attended local schools and graduated from Chapman High School with the class of 1952. He was an Army Veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. On November 12, 1954 Jim married Vivian Stammeyer. All of their married life was spent in Dickinson County. He had been employed by Civil Service at Ft. Riley in communications until retiring in 1976. Jim enjoyed sports and hunting, He was preceded in death by: his parents; grandson, Jeremy Lake; sister Zana Anderson and two brothers, Clifford L. and William H. Lake.
Jim is survived by: wife, Vivian Lake; son, James R. (Kim) Lake; daughter, Kimberly Lake all of Abilene; a sister Carol Cameron of Salina; four grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 1:30 PM Wednesday, November 23rd, at the Grace United Church of Christ with Rev. Phyllis Garrett and Pastor Pansy Beaudoin officiating. Interment will follow in the Prairie Mound Cemetery east of Solomon. The family will receive friends 5:30 – 6:30 PM Tuesday, November 22nd, at the Danner Funeral Home. The family requests in lieu of flowers memorial contributions in his name be made to the Grace United Church of Christ, the Abilene Senior Center or the Dickinson County Hospice. They may be left at the church the day of the service or left at or sent in care of the Danner Funeral Home POB 758 Abilene, Kansas 67410.

jessica-stevenson-1479659268Jessica Renee Stevenson, 29, of McPherson, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 19, 2016, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson, KS. She worked at Clayworks at Disability Supports, McPherson and babysat for local families.

Jessica was born on September 16, 1987, in Peoria, Illinois, the daughter of Robert Vincent and Marcia Louise (Giles) Stevenson. She graduated from Lewistown Community High School in Illinois.

She attended McPherson Church of the Brethren.

Survivors include: mother, Marcia Stevenson (Toby Stout) of Big Lake, AK; brother, Tony Stevenson of Naval Base Guam; grandmother, Ruth Howell of McPherson, KS; step-grandfather, Harold (Noreen) Hand of Peoria, IL; her beloved Chihuahua, Lylah; numerous aunt, uncles, cousins, & friends.

She was preceded in death by her father.

The memorial service will be at 2:00 PM, Friday, November 25, 2016, at McPherson Church of the Brethren with Rev. Chris Whitacre officiating.

Memorial donations may be given to Clayworks at Disability Supports, McPherson in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home, 205 North Chestnut, McPherson, KS 67460.

marcia-ade-1479651096Marcia M. Ade, 91, of Roxbury, KS, died on Saturday, November 19, 2016, at McPherson Hospital surrounded by those who brought great joy to her life, her family.

Marcia was born on September 20, 1925, in Roxbury, KS, to her parents, Eugene and Bertha Forsberg. She graduated from Roxbury High School. On November 13, 1943, Marcia was united in marriage to Warren Ade, and they farmed together for many years.

She was a member of Temple Church in Gypsum, KS.

Marcia is preceded in death by: her husband, Warren Ade; son, Jim Ade; sisters, Evelyn Madden and Rosalene Ratzlaff as well as their spouses, John Madden and Wesley Ratzlaff; and brother, Wayne Forsberg.

Survivors include: daughter, Judy (Gary) Long of Valley Center, KS; granddaughters, Denise (Dennis) Newfer of Valley Center, KS, Carol Weems of Wichita, KS, Diane (Jereme) House of Pratt, KS; great-grandchildren, Taylor Weems, Caleb, Leah, and Tara Newfer, Isaac, Jorden, and Luke House; sister, Donna (Lloyd) Hanson of Sacramento, CA; sister-in-law who is like a sister, Maleta Forsberg of Lindsborg, KS; brother-in-law, Don (Janice) Ade of Gypsum, KS; as well as many nieces & nephews.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, November 22, 2016, at Temple Church in Gypsum with Rev. Dennis Mullins officiating. Burial will follow at Temple Church Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be given to Temple Church Missionary Fund in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home, 205 North Chestnut, McPherson, KS 67460.

5831f91fd3026Harry M. Wilkey, 73, passed away November 18, 2016 on the farmstead. He was born December 14, 1942 in Sterling, KS, the son of Wilbur and Gail Skinner Wilkey. Harry was a lifetime Reno County resident. He graduated from Nickerson High School with the class of 1960, and later attended Sterling College. Harry was a member of the Reformed Presbyterian Church, Sterling. Survivors include his brother Sam and Sue Wilkey, Wichita, KS; two sisters, Zetta and Jim Anderson, St. Paul, MN, and Sheila and Bob Steenbock, Clay Center, KS; and numerous admiring nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral service will be 2:30 P.M. Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at the Reformed Presbyterian Church, Sterling with Rev. Bruce Backensto officiating. Burial will be at Sterling Community Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the Reformed Presbyterian Church, Sterling or Paralyzed Veterans of America in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling.
