Velma V. Greep, 96, passed away Monday, December 11th, in Abilene. She was born January 5, 1921 near Abilene, the daughter of LeRoy and Ada (Mittan) Ayre. Growing up in the area, Velma attended local schools and graduated from Chapman High School with the class of 1938. On March 2, 1952, she was married to Kenneth K. Greep. Most all of their married life was spent in Longford where they owned and operated the Longford Grocery. Velma enjoyed spending time with family and friends, reading and crossword puzzles. In 1996, they retired and moved to Enterprise to make their home. Kenneth preceded her in death May 20, 2015, She was also preceded in death by a son, Orrin Greep; three sisters, Hazel Helbach, Leola Berger, Hilda Kobetch and two brothers, Ronald and Delmer Ayre.
Velma is survived by: two daughters, Merlene Ryan of Antioc, California and Gayle Zieger of Enterprise; a son, David Greep of Livingston, Montana; five grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Friday, December 15th, at the Danner Funeral Home with Pastor Lindsey Brummer officiating. Interment will follow in the Athelstane Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions in her name be made to Hospice of Dickinson County or Elsie Brooks Cancer Fund.
