Newton – Opal May (Dent) Evans, 92 of Newton, Kansas , passed away Monday, December 18, 2017, at the Kansas Christian Home in Newton.
She was born April 15, 1925, the daughter of Clyde and Ethel (Kendle) Dent. Opal May grew up on a farm north of Council Grove. She attended Lull Meadows Grade School and three years at Council Grove High School. Her senior year was at White City High School, s=where she was able to take the teachers course and received her Teacher’s Certificate. She attended Kansas State and was a Home Economics Major.
She married Donald Evans on November 17, 1946.
Opal May was a volunteer for the Christian Church-Disciples of Christ for twenty five years on the national, state and local levels. She served as the Kansas Christian Women’s Fellowship President and Kansas President of Church Women United. She was chairman of a Kansas Peace Ribbon that contained 1,114 pieces and traveled to Washington D.C., where the ribbon was tied around the capitol to promote peace.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Don and brother Robert (Bob) Dent.
Opal is survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, December 22, 2017, at the Community Christian Church. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
