Donna Mae (Hartnett) Prickett passed away on Friday, January 12, 2018 at Sheridan County Health Complex Long term Care Unit in Hoxie, Kansas at the age of 85. She was born on November 29, 1932 in Bucklin, Kansas to the late Reverend Blueford “B.A.” and Lucy (Welch) Hartnett. She graduated from Plainville High School in Plainville, Kansas with the Class of 1950. She went on to attend Brown Mackie College in Salina, Kansas earning her Associate Degree in Business.
On January 10, 1954 Donna was united in marriage to Donald William Prickett in Liberal, Kansas. Her father was the minister at the church and performed the ceremony after services. With this marriage came Don’s beautiful 2-year-old daughter Jacqueline. They were blessed with three more children. The family resided in Plainville, Kansas from 1954 to 1969. In the fall of 1969, the family made the move from Plainville to Hoxie where they have lived ever since.
Donna was a hardworking woman, wife, and mother. Donna worked at Hoxie Feeders for several years. Later she kept books for Sunflower Chemical while also keeping books for Mr P’s Truck’n and Mr P’s Propane. Donna never retired, she continued to run Mr P’s Propane after Don’s death.
She was an avid gardener with a special love of roses. Her yard and flowers were her pride and joy. Always strong and resourceful, Donna could do most any task. Donna was also well known for her high heels and classy attire. She had shoes to match most every outfit.
As the only girl growing up with 3 brothers, made Donna appear tough. But those who really knew her well saw the soft and compassionate person she truly was.
Donna started her card ministry about 15 years ago. When she heard of someone with an illness or loss of a loved one, a weekly card or occasional angel would be sent to uplift their spirits. She was also known for remembering widows in the community on Valentine’s Day with a special valentine to let them know they were still loved. Donna always gave 100% of herself to each person in her life, whether family, friend or neighbor. She was a gift to every heart, a friend to every soul, and the golden thread that held us together and gave meaning to each of our lives.
Donna is survived by her son Brick Prickett and wife Sandy of Anthony; daughter Tina Barton and husband Ross of Fruitland, ID; son-in-law Roger Stahl of Dodge City; brother Bus Hartnett and wife Bernita of Wichita; sister-in-law Gayla Hartnett of Bakersfield, CA; nine grandchildren; and nineteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Donald, son William “Andy” Prickett, and daughter Jacqueline Stahl, her parents B.A. and Lucy Hartnett, brothers Donald “Doc” Hartnett and Blueford Hartnett.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30am on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at Christ Community Church in Hoxie. Burial will follow in Hoxie City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00-8:00pm on Monday at the funeral home with Family receiving friends from 6:00-7:30pm.
