Dennis Eugene Vossman, 90, was born on April 23, 1927 and returned to his heavenly home on April 6, 2018, peacefully in his sleep at Mitchell County Hospital Health Systems in Beloit, Kansas.

Dennis was born to Anthony and Amelia (Heiman) Vossman in Beloit Kansas.  He grew up on a family farm in Delphos Kansas and graduated from Delphos High School in 1945. After high school, he continued his education at an electrical school in Chicago. Shortly later, he returned to Beloit and started his own electrical contracting business. He continued to work on the family farm until the mid-1970’s, then retired as an electrician in 1992. In his need to keep himself busy, he worked part-time at Boettcher Supply and enjoyed working with his many co-workers until he officially retired at the age of 87.

Dennis, always the one to enjoy a sweet treat, met Marilyn Deane Stratton at the S&S Drug Soda Fountain, where she worked in her father’s pharmacy.  After three years of courtship, Dennis and Marilyn were united in marriage on June 12, 1951. To this union of 66 years, five children were born.

Ever the workaholic, Dennis could be found doing many things to fulfill his time. While running his electrical contracting business and managing his retail store, where he sold appliances, Dennis work on the family farm and ran a small feedlot. In helping Marilyn raise five children, he also volunteered countless hours of his time at church, including installing the air conditioners in St. John the Baptist Church and elementary and high schools and serving on the St. John’s School Board, St. John’s Parish Council. Dennis was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the St. John’s Parish Choir. In his community service work, he delivered Meals on Wheels, donated 17 gallons of blood to the American Red Cross, and served on the Beloit City Council. While retired, he built grandfather clocks for each of his children and doll houses for his granddaughters.

In his leisure time Dennis loved to play cards with family or on the computer and watch the Kansas City Royals. He was a lover of all pies and egg-timer naps.

Dennis is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Don and Darrell (stillborn), and sister Mildred (Brundgardt).  He is survived by his wife Marilyn, three daughters Carolie (Kit) Meade, Cincinnati, Ohio; Janis (Mike) Crow, Manhattan; Lynn Fleming (Danny), Beloit; two sons Steve, Wichita; Brian (Rochelle, fiancé), Overland Park; nine grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Dennis and Marilyn hosted a French AFS student, Corrine Laborde, in the year 1984-85, who with along with her family became a devoted member of the family, as they exchanged numerous foreign and domestic trips.

Funeral services will be at 10 AM Tuesday, April 10 at the St. John’s Catholic Church.
