Edgar N. Hinkle Jr.

Edgar N. Hinkle Jr., 89, of Salina, passed away Thursday, May 10, 2018 at Smoky Hill Rehabilitation Center. He was born Feb. 26, 1929, in Clay Center, to Edgar Sr. and Emma (Luthi) Hinkle.

Edgar was in the Army and served in the Korean War. Edgar then graduated from Kansas State University with a master’s degree in agriculture. He taught agriculture in Nebraska and Kansas. He was also a county extension agent in Decatur County. After moving to Salina, Edgar worked for Federal Mogul in Salina until they closed. He then owned and operated his own landscaping business for many years. In his spare time he gave guitar lessons.

He is survived by: his children, Bill Hinkle of Jackson, Mich., and Roy Hinkle of Lawrence; grandson, Andrew J. Hinkle of Jackson, Mich.; and sister, Rita Blanton of El Dorado.

He is preceded in death by: his parents; and sister, Alice Marple.

Memorial service is 11 a.m. Thursday, May 17, at First Baptist Church, Salina, with Pastor Kevin Hazelton as officiant. The VFW Post 1432, Salina will present military rights after the service. Inurnment will be at Wilsey.

Memorials may be made to the church, in care of Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth St., Salina 67401.
