Aloysius D. “Al” Koch, 94, of Salina, passed away Monday, May 14, 2018. He was born in rural Cloud County, southwest of Clyde, to Nicholas and Cordelia (Menard) Koch, Nov. 2, 1923.
He was a former resident of Concordia, Clyde, and Washington, Kan. He was in the United States Army and served in World War II, in Italy. He married Beth G. Kennedy at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Concordia, April 14, 1948. He owned Koch Men’s Clothing Store in Clyde, 1950-1951. He moved to Washington, Kan. in 1951 where he was salesman for the Ford-Mercury agency. From 1970-1988, he owned the agency. He was an active member of the St. Augustine Catholic Church, the Chamber of Commerce, Lion’s Club, and American Legion. In 1988, he and his wife moved to Salina where he worked for Skaggs Alpha Beta, Harvest Foods, and Dillions until 2010. He was a member of St. Mary Queen of the Universe Catholic Church since moving to Salina. He was an active member of Knights of Columbus since 1942.
Survivors include: his wife, Beth; daughters, Joan M. Kloppenberg (Ronald), Janet A. Haskett, Catherine M. Heppler (Harry), and Angela J. (Jeffrey) Freeman; son, Stephen P. Koch (Nancy); sister, Cecelia Deneault; 18 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; brothers, Rev. Fr. Augustine, Joseph, Lawrence, Herman, and Anthony; sisters, Sister Herman Joseph, Sister Marguerite, Irene, Isabel Fischer, Rosa Brownell and Florence Fischer; and son-in-law, Michael Haskett Sr.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday, May 18, at Ryan Mortuary, Salina, with rosary beginning at 7 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial is at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 19, at St. Mary Queen of the Universe Catholic Church, with Fr. Jeremy Heppler as celebrant. Burial will follow at All Saints Catholic Cemetery.
