Jack Eugene Bronson, 62, of Wheeling, IL passed away on June 22, 2018 at the Loyola Heart Institute.  Jack was born on January 2, 1956 to Grant Benjamin Bronson and Vada Gale (Lott) Bronson.

Jack was born at Asbury Hospital in Salina and raised in Minneapolis, Kansas.   While growing up he was hard to keep indoors, as he loved hunting, fishing, and playing sports.  He excelled at sports and set records for shot put and  discuss in junior high and high school.  He also helped the Lions football team win two North Kansas League titles, was named to the All League football team, and was the first attendant at homecoming.

Faith, family and friends always meant the most to Jack.  He grew up and lived surrounded by a large and close-knit family. On Sept. 5, 1981 Jack married Rita Schmidt.  Two sons were born to this union, Jeremiah and Daniel.  During this time Jack worked for Boogaarts, Town & Country Chevrolet, and Greenline Service Center.

Jack married Kay (Gehrke) Hires on October 2, 2004.  He welcomed Kay’s children, Nakia and Chase into the family with open arms and loved them as his own.  Jack and Kay lived in Minneapolis and then Salina where he worked for Crane Rental.  They later settled in the Chicago area where they lived until he went home to be with his heavenly Father.  Jack will fondly be remembered as a loving husband, endearing father and grandfather, and an all around incredibly friendly guy who will be dearly missed by everyone who knew him.

Survivors include his wife Kay of Wheeling, IL; mother Vada of Minneapolis, KS; brother Paul of Copper Canyon, TX; mother-in-law Violet Gehrke of Minneapolis, KS; children Jeremiah (Janci) of Ames, IA; Daniel Bronson of Newton, KS; Nakia Hires Joutras of Wheeling, IL; grandchildren Benjamin, David, and Evelyn Bronson; and Summit and Maevi Joutras; as well as multiple aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Jack was preceded in death by his father Ben Bronson, brother Rich Bronson, sister Jean “Beans” Nelson, and son Chase Hires.

Services will be held at Wilson Family Funeral Home on July 21 at 10:00 a.m. in Minneapolis, immediately followed by burial at the Delphos Cemetery.  A public reception will follow the service at the Delphos Senior Citizen Center. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that memorials may be made to Wilson Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 166, Minneapolis, KS 67467, to offset expenses.
