Obituaries 21 November, 2014

san41117Barbara Sanborn, 79, Salina, died Monday, Nov. 17, 2014. She was born May 5, 1935 in Fresno, California to Paul and Theodora (Plastis) Gordon. Later, after Barbara’s father, Paul, was killed in WWII, her mother married Barbara’s stepfather, Earl Guenther. On April 10, 1962, Barbara married David William Sanborn in Los Angeles, California. In 1976, David and Barbara moved to Salina, Kansas where they owned and operated the Budget King Motel for many years.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, was a former member of the Salina Country Club, and loved to play golf. Barbara loved her grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them.

Her parents, stepfather, and husband preceded her in death.

Barbara is survived by two sons, Roger (Michelle) Sanborn of Salina and Mike (Paula) Sanborn of Dallas, Texas; a brother Richard (Patti) Guenther; five grandchildren David, Christopher, Taylor, Ryan, and Callie Sanborn; and two nieces Jacqui Guenther-Fortner and Kris Guenther-Wilson.

There will be no visitation. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 24, 2014 at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. 8th, Salina, Kansas. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park, Salina, Kansas. The family suggests memorials to Salina Presbyterian Manor, 2601 East Crawford, Salina, Kansas 67401.

you41118Twila Jean Flax Younger, 65, Salina, died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2014. She was born Apr 9, 1949 in Hays, the daughter of Paul and Martha (Augustine) Flax. She married Mark Albert Younger on October 30, 1967. Twila worked at Tony’s Pizza, Salina for 24 years and was a homemaker.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Mark, a brother, Frank Flax, a brother in law, Leon Dreher and a grandson, Quest Stotler.

Twila is survived by two sons; Kevin (Shonda) Younger, Derby and Kelly (Tonya) Younger, Salina; her sisters, Tillie (Leonard) Augustine, Ellis, Sister Loretta Clare Flax, Hays and Eleanor Augustine, Englewood, CO; sister in law, Imelda “Millie” Flax, Hays; and her grandchildren, Kameron Younger, Karson Younger and Quinn Price.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am Friday, Nov. 21, 2014 at St. Mary’s Queen of the Universe Catholic Church, Salina. There will be Vigil Services on Thursday evening at 7:30 pm at the Ryan Mortuary, Salina. Memorials are suggested to the church parish.
