Maynard Sylvan Jones, 87, of Salina, passed away Monday, Jan. 26, 2015. He was born on a farm near Baltic, S.D. Maynard was the younger of two sons of John and Magda Jones.
Maynard moved with his family to Salina in 1961. He owned and operated the Gibson’s Discount Center and eventually expanded the business to a nine-store chain with stores located in Kansas and Nebraska. He later took on the Ace Hardware franchise.
Maynard was a member of the Saline County Flying Deputies, served on the council at St. John’s Lutheran Church, the board at Salina Country Club and the Ace Hardware advisory board. He was an avid hunter of pheasants and enjoyed golf and traveling with his wife.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Roland.
Survivors include his wife, Letty; three sons, Tom, Mark and Scott; seven grandchildren, Adam, Brooke, Jennifer, Mike, Lindsay, Johnny and Annie; and four great-grandchildren, Sadie, Thomas, Olivia and Eli.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 30, at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Interment will follow in Gypsum Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, with family receiving friends from 6-8, at Ryan Mortuary.
Memorials may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Willie Ray Davis, 62, of Salina, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2015. He was born April 25, 1952, in Fort, Miss., the son of Willie and Eletha (Moore) Davis.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Hasley, of Salina; daughter, Brandi Davis; stepson, David Andrew Johnson; grandson, Blake Tryon Davis; two brothers, Jimmy Davis and Jerome Davis; three sisters, Abby Cross, Dorothy Witby and Teresa Hudson; and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Cremation has been chosen. A service will be at a later date.

Louise LaVera Peterson, 92, of Salina, passed away Friday, Jan. 23, 2015. She was born July 30, 1922, in Beauford Township, Minn., the daughter of Robert Lloyd and Elisabeth Isabelle (Healy) Lang.
Louise was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford B. Peterson; sons, Rob G. Peterson and A. Dale Peterson; her brother, Malcolm Lang; and grandson, Sven G. Peterson.
She is survived by son, Terry M. and wife Susan Peterson; daughter, Helen A. and husband Larry Gregg; brothers, Greig and Oscar Lang; sister, Minnetta A. King; grandchildren, Elizabeth A. Gregg, Ingrid G. Peterson and Heather L. Gregg; and five great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 30, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 901 E. Neal, Salina, with Rev. Barry Dundas officiating. Private family inurnment will be held in Gypsum Hill Cemetery, Salina.
