day30301SOLOMON — Dorothy C. Day, 86, of Solomon, died Friday, March 1, 2013. She was born July 24, 1926, in Manchester, the daughter of Harold and Florence (Glenn) Morehouse. Dorothy was a secretary for Whittier School, Salina, USD 305 for 25 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, in 2003; and three brothers, Kent, Bryce and Jack Morehouse. Dorothy is survived by her son, Kent (Alice) Day, of Solomon; daughter, Cindy (Rick) Pfeiffer, of Andover; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and sister, Audrey (Dean) Colley, of Derby.

Memorials services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 6, at Sunrise Presbyterian Church, Salina. Inurnment in Prairiedale Cemetery, Talmage. Memorials to the church, the Salina Twirlers or Hospice of Salina.

zim30228Richard H. “Dick” Zimmerman was born Feb. 8, 1921, in rural Harvey County, south of Burrton. He was the son of Samuel R. and Alice E. (Vollweider) Zimmerman. He graduated from Mount Hope High School, Business College and Wisconsin School of Banking. He was a member of Mount Hope Lodge No. 238, Scottish Rite and Shriners, a member of First United Methodist Church of Salina, and a charter member of First United Methodist Church of Fountain Hills, Ariz.

He married C. Earlene Blubaugh on July 14, 1940, in Preston.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Alice; an infant daughter, Anita Kay; a brother, Fred L. Zimmerman; and sisters, Pauline Crawford and Nadine Zimmerman.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Earlene; a son, the Rev. Richard E. Zimmerman and Carolyn, of McPherson; two daughters, Paula and Robert Trimble, of Mukilteo, Wash., and Terri Zimmerman, of Fountain Hills, Ariz.; six grandchildren, Terri Trimble and Dilip Argarwal, of Twickenham, England, Susan McCoy and Jon, of El Dorado, Galen R. Zimmerman and Kim, of Killeen, Texas, Christi Kreutz and Steve, of Everett, Wash., Stephen Zimmerman, of Hutchinson, and Bryan Trimble, of Louisiana; 12 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-granddaughters.

In 1948, he purchased a grocery store in Harper and later was employed by First National Bank of Harper. He served as president of the chamber of commerce; Harper school board; Scout leader; secretary-treasurer of Tri-County Bankers Association; and served on the Harper County fair board.

Later he was hired to run Bentley Kansas State Bank and Home State Bank of Lewis.

In 1967, at the age of 46, he purchased controlling interest in First State Bank of Salina. As in every community in which he lived, he gave of his time and talent. He was a member of Kansas Banker’s Association; vice president of Salina Chamber of Commerce; chairman of the board of Asbury Hospital Association and later Salina Regional Health; advisory board of the Presbyterian Manor; chairman of the board of Kansas Wesleyan; and was active in many other civic organizations, as well as his church.

There will be no visitation.

Friends may sign the guest book at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at First United Methodist Church, 122 N. Eighth, Salina.

Private graveside services will be on Wednesday, March 6, 2013, in Halstead Cemetery, Halstead.

The family suggests memorials to First United Methodist Church, Presbyterian Manor, Salina Regional Health Foundation or Kansas Wesleyan College.

Michael “Mike” Tucker, 59, of Salina, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013. He was born July 29, 1953, in Salina, the son of Bobbie and Jolene Tucker.

Michael was preceded in death by his father, Bobbie Tucker. He is survived by his mother, Jolene, of Salina; and two sisters, Jean Tucker and Janice Derrico, both of Salina.

A memorial service will be at a later date. Ryan Mortuary, Salina, is handling arrangements.
