72, passed away Tuesday, October 6th, in Salina. She was born August 11, 1943 in Dodge City, the daughter of Carl and Sybil (Snedecor) Matthews. Growing up in Dodge City, Karla attended local schools and graduated from Dodge City High School. In 1962 she entered the Women’s Army Corps. On March 14, 1964, Karla was married to Jerry Golden in North Carolina. Most all of their married life was spent following his army career. They moved to make their home in Abilene in 1984 before Jerry retired in 1986. He preceded her in death December 26, 1990. Karla enjoyed gardening, stained glass, church work and volunteering at the hospital. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters, Lori Lea Spuehler and Jackie Sue Matthews and a brother Tom Matthews. Karla was a member of the Brethren In Christ Church, Ladies’ Ministries and was a Brethren In Christ Church Board Member.

Carolyn Kay Jones Gordon was born in Abilene, KS on May 28, 1938. She moved to her new address in heaven on October 3, 2015. She was born to Mildred Esther (Coulson) Jones and Wayne Leroy Jones. She graduated from Abilene High School and Brown Mackie College. She was a member of the swim and dive team in high school. Carolyn met the love of her life Charles E Gordon at the candy counter at Duckwalls. He was a soldier at Fort Riley, KS and stopped in to buy some candy. He came to Abilene to see the old west town that he had read about in western books. When they met it was love at first sight. They married March 28, 1958 and had three children named Sherilyn and twins named Kathryn and Michael. They moved to Texas in the 1960’s. She worked at Baxter Healthcare for many years and made many friends. She enjoyed cooking, fishing, Family Feud, card games, the great outdoors, music, the arts, Dr. OZ, the Texas Rangers, the Dallas Cowboys, and spending time with family and friends. She loved Pancho’s Mexican Buffet and most Mexican food. She never met a stranger and she always made a friend. She always had a smile on her face. She loved life and lived it to the fullest. She is preceded in death by her parents Mildred and Wayne Jones, husband Charles E. Gordon, brother Kenton Jones, and many brother and sister in laws. She is survived by her daughter and son in law Sherilyn and William Skillman of Grand Prairie, TX, daughter Kathryn Nilssen of Houston, TX, son and daughter in law Michael and Donna Gordon of Houston, TX, sister and brother in law Patricia and James Arnold or Hutchinson, KS, sister in law Wanda Guthrie of Alabama, sister in law Ophelia Hamilton of Dallas, TX, grandchildren Robert and Kristin Ferris, Brian and Brittany Gordon, great grandchildren Cooper, Brooklyn, James and Parker Ferris, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends. Per her request please send donations to the Vocal Music Department at Grand Prairie Fine Arts Academy, 102 High School Drive, Grand Prairie, TX, 75050. Thank you for all your love and support. Funeral Services for Carolyn will be 4:00 P.M., Saturday, October 10, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church in Abilene with Pastor John Collins Officiating. Burial will follow at the Abilene City Cemetery. Family will receive friends Saturday, October 10, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church in Abilene from 3:00 P.M., until service time. Services are under the direction of Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home in Abilene.

vet_ffffffFuneral services for Michael A. Barnett, age 68, of Enterprise, will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 10, 2015 at the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home in Abilene with Reverend Jack Craig officiating. Mike passed away Monday, October 5, 2015 at the Abilene Memorial Hospital.

He was born August 2, 1947 in New Orleans, LA the son of Woodrow and Lochie (Corbett) Barnett. He graduated high school in Coleman, Alabama and received his Associated Degree.

Mike served his country for 27 years in the United State Army before retiring as a Staff Sergeant. Following his retirement from the military, Mike worked for the Solomon Corporation.

On May 17, 1974 Mike married Beverly M. Muse in Junction City. Together they enjoyed traveling and Mike loved history.

Survivors include his loving wife Beverly of the home; sons Terry and his wife Alejandra Barnett of Fullerton, California, Rusty and his wife Laura Barnett of Durham, North Carolina; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family of Mike will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home. Following the service on Friday, cremation is planned with a private graveside service Saturday with military honors provided by the Ft. Riley Honor Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to the Michael Barnett Memorial Fund to be designated later and may be sent in care of the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home 414 NW 3rd, Abilene, Kansas 67410.

Terry L. Davis, 65 of Enterprise passed away Monday, October 5, 2015 at Memorial Hospital in Abilene. He was born February 21, 1950, in Herington, the son of George and Irene (Shane) Davis. He grew up in the Hope area and attended the Hope School District, graduating in 1968. He worked for Rock Island Rail Road in the late 70’s and later went on to work for the Kansas Department of Agriculture Large Scales in Topeka. On April 14, 1990 he was united in marriage to Brenda Magee in Lamar, Missouri. She survives of the home. Terry was a member of the St. Andrews Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus in Abilene.
He is survived by his wife Brenda of the home. Three Daughters: Randee Davis of Lenexa; Heidi Welch and husband Jack of Olathe; and Mariah Burkholder of Abilene. One brother: Calvin Davis and wife JoAnn of Hope and sister, Bonnie Bieber and husband Leon of Pennsylvania. Five grandchildren: Everett Lee Welch and Vivian Rose Welch; Baylee and Chelsea Jones and Dylan Forgy . He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family has chosen Cremation. A Memorial Service for Terry will be 2:00 P.M., Sunday, October 11, 2015 at Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home in Abilene with Father Henry Baxa officiating. Parish Rosary will be recited before the service at 1:30 P.M. on Sunday. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date. The family of Terry Davis suggests memorials be given to the Wounded Warrior Project. Memorials may be dropped off or mailed to Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, 414 NW Third St., Abilene, Kansas 67410.

Hillsboro – LeOra Grunau, 87, died October 5, 2015 at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro.  She was born June 27, 1928 to Aaron and Anna (Penner) Ratzlaff in Corn, Oklahoma.  She married Allen R. Grunau July 25, 1947 in Corn, Oklahoma.  Survivors include: son, Charles Kent Grunau of Wichita; daughter, Patrice Kay Brown of Newton; brother, Barney Ratzlaff of Tulsa, Oklahoma; sisters, Bertha Pauls of Reedley, CA, Arlene Flaming of Enid, OK; 1 grandchild and 1 great grandchild.  Predeceased by her husband in 2004 and brothers, Paul, John and ElRoy.  Celebration of Life Service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 9, 2015 at Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church officiated by Pastor Loyal Martin.  Memorials to Hillsboro M.B.
