5560255_220wLoretta A. Troxel, 47, of Salina, passed away Friday, December 4, 2015. She was born September 19, 1968 in in Chanute, KS.

Loretta left behind her brother, Harold Felkins; sister, Tammy Felkins Waller; five children, Brett Troxel, Brittany Troxel Delzell, Kirk Troxel, Kayla Troxeland James Troxel; and nine grandchildren, Raquel, Dade, Tanner, Lily, Bailey, Maddison, Braxton, Maya and Rylan.

Loretta was a simple woman and her wishes were to be cremated. She requested that no public services be held; her family will be celebrating her life in private at a later date.

Dorothy-Ecton-1449568920Dorothy Mae (Brown) Ecton, 85, of Salina, passed away Monday, Dec. 7, 2015, at Salina Regional Health Center with her family present.

Dorothy was born Sept. 30, 1930, in Norton, to Orville and Hazel Brown. She married Howard Lee Ecton in January 1949 and they shared 67 years of marriage together. They enjoyed traveling and visited 47 states, Canada, and Mexico.

She had several hobbies including quilting and crocheting, time with her family, cooking, and playing cards. She will be remembered for her kindness to others and love for her family.

Dorothy’s surviving family includes her husband, Howard Ecton, of Salina; son, Steve Ecton and his wife Sharon, of McAllen, Texas; daughter-in-law, Mary Ecton, of Salina; brother, Al Brown and his wife Clara, of San Jose, Calif.; brother-in-law, Leonard Ecton and his wife Billie, of Solomon; six granddaughters and their spouses, Layla and Lyn Peppers, of Salina, Jennifer and Doug Mead, of Lee’s Summit, Mo., Stephanie Zambrano and Stan Hernandez, of Mission, Texas, Aimee Ecton, of McAllen, Texas, Julie Ecton, of Salina, and Lana and Phillip Bustamante, of Garden City; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Ellen (Brown) Rice; son, Alan Ecton; and daughter, Connie Reeve.

Dorothy was a member of Faith Free Will Baptist Church of Salina, and her funeral service will be there at 11 a.m. today, Tuesday, Dec. 8. She will be cremated and a graveside memorial service will occur at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made to Salina Rescue Mission.

3515142_wlppBertha M. Koch, age 87, passed away on Tues., Dec. 8, 2015 at Park Villa Nursing Home, Clyde, KS. She was born on June 5, 1928 in Miltonvale, KS to Arthur J. & Amanda M. (Charbonneau) Adam.

She attended country school Dist. #61 near Miltonvale. She married Anthony J. Koch on June 16, 1947 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Miltonvale. He preceded her on May 24, 2000. She was a lifelong homemaker and mother. Bertha was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters, Clyde. She was a Past President of the Clyde Chamber of Commerce, American Legion Aux., Clifton, Women of the Moose #1428 & a past president of the VFW Aux., Clyde. Bertha loved to garden and play cards, but her family was her biggest passion, always being a part of their lives and giving guidance and support.

She is survived by her daughters; Carolyn Danielson (Michael), Pueblo West, CO, Pat Olson (Fred), St. George & Lisa Brewer (Dave), Concordia; sons; Robert (Nadine), North Little Rock, AR, Michael (Joy), Liberty, MO, Mark (Leslie), Clifton, Jerry (Cathy) & Terry (Brenda), both of Clyde; sister, Dorothy Blackwood, Tonganoxie; brother, Junior Adam, Emporia; 18 grandchildren & 18 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony; parents; 1 grandson; 4 brothers; sister & a daughter in law.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am, Sat., Dec. 12, 2015 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Rev. James Soosainathan & Rev. Joseph Kieffer officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Clyde. Viewing will be from 10 am to 5 pm with a Parish Rosary at 4 pm at Chaput Mortuary, Clyde followed by a vigil service at 7:00 pm at the church all on Friday, Dec. 11, 2015. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Mt. Calvary Cemetery Fund or Park Villa Nursing Home in care of the funeral home.

56676102071b8vet_ffffffHERINGTON – Rudolph A. “Rudy” Corona, 64, lifelong resident of Herington, died Sunday evening December 6th, 2015, at Salina. He was born on December 10, 1950, at Herington, the son of Samuel and Antonia (Mesa) Corona.

Christian Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00AM Thursday, December 10th, 2015, at the St. John’s Catholic Church, Herington, with Father Soosaimari “Soosai” Rathinam officiating; military honors will follow.  A Rosary will precede the service at 10:30AM at the church; and Mr. Corona will lie in state from 10AM Thursday also at the church.

Mr. Corona was retired Union Pacific Conductor.  He was a member of the St. John’s Catholic Church, Herington. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.  Graduated from Herington High School with the class of 1969.

Survived by a daughter Darcy Davis (husband-Jim) of Herington; son Mario Corona of Tioga, ND; brother Ralph Corona of Salina; three (3) sisters: Dolores “Lola” Vasquez of Wichita, Elvira “Chepa” Lewis of Topeka, and Estella of North Carolina; six (6) grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Preceded in death by a brother David Corona, and his parents.

Memorials to the St. John’s Catholic Church; and they may be sent to the Zeiner Funeral Home – Herington Chapel, 404 S Broadway, Herington, KS, 67449-3038.

Bert L. Besthorn, 60, passed away Sunday, December 6, 2015 in Hays, KS. He was born November 29, 1955 in Great Bend, KS to Herbert L. and Joyce A. (Rathbun) Besthorn.

Bert was a lifetime resident of the Claflin area. He earned his Master’s Degree in Diesel Mechanics from Pittsburg State University. Bert then went on to teach Diesel Mechanics at Barton County Community College, was a contract trainer for Case-New Holland teaching power mechanics, and after retirement, served as a substitute teacher at Central Plains High School in Claflin. Bert was co-owner of Besthorn Oil and Gas Service, Inc. and served the community on the USD 354 School Board for 16 years. He was also a member of the United Methodist Church of Claflin and the Pittsburg State University Alumni Association.

Bert is survived by his wife and son, Lana and Clark Besthorn, both of Claflin; sisters, Jodi Besthorn of Wichita, KS and Elaine Besthorn of Goodyear, AZ; and brother, Scott Besthorn of High Point, NC. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation: 1-8 p.m., Thursday, December 10, 2015 at Parsons Funeral Home, Ellsworth, with family present from 6-8 p.m.

Funeral service: 10:00 a.m., Friday, December 11, 2015 at Claflin United Methodist Church, with burial following in the Claflin Cemetery.
