Leah C. Dunkin, age 105, died Fri., Feb. 5, 2016 at Clay County Medical Center, Clay Center, KS. She was born Feb. 13, 1910 on a farm close to Palmyra, IL to Frank & Elfa (Etter) Flentje.
When she was a small girl, she moved with her family to a farm south of Farmersville, MO. She attended Farmersville & Ward rural schools. She attended Chula High School for 3 years and graduated high school in 1927 in Trenton, MO. She attended summer term at Trenton Junior College and summer term at Maryville College. She taught school at Liberty for 3 years. She married Herbert T. Dunkin on April 20, 1930 and they moved to a farm southeast of Trenton. They spent their married life on the farm and she always thanked God for her life in the country. After the death of her husband in 1986, she and her daughter, Virginia continued to live on the farm until she suffered a stroke and they went to live with her daughter, Patricia in Clyde, KS. She was a long time member of Liberty Chapel Christian Church and was supportive of mission work. She loved gardening & yard work in the summer and then quilting & sewing during the winter months.
She is survived by her daughters, Virginia & Patricia, Clyde, KS.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert; her parents; brothers & their spouses, Rudolph (Cleo) Flentje & Winston (Lorene) Flentje & her sister & her husband, Florence (Floyd) Foster.
Funeral services will be 9:30 am, Fri., Feb. 12, 2016 at the Clyde Christian Church, Clyde, KS. Burial services will be at 3:00 pm, Fri., Feb. 12, 2016 at Stucker Cemetery, Trenton, MO. Visitation will be form 1-5 pm, Thurs., Feb. 11, 2016 at Chaput Mortuary, Clyde, KS. The family suggests memorials to the Clyde Arboretum or the Shiloh Children’s Home, Clarence, MO in care of the funeral home.

MANHATTAN — Allen Webber, 78, of Manhattan, died Thursday, Feb. 4, 2016, at University of Kansas Medical Center.

HERINGTON – Steven R. Bryan, 64, of Goddard, formerly of Herington, departed this life, Thursday, Feb. 4th, 2016, at the Medicalodges of Goddard. He was born on March 6th, 1951, at Winfield, the son of Marable and Virginia R. (Ferry) Bryan.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm Monday, Feb. 8th, 2015, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Herington, with Pastor Bill Peterson, officiating. Calling time will be from 2:00 pm, Monday, until time of services at the church and following the services until 4:30 pm. Burial will be 1:00 pm, Tuesday, February 9th, 2016, at Elk Falls Cemetery, of Elk Falls, Kansas.
Mr. Bryan retired from Steve’s Grocery Store of Hope in 1991 due to failing health. He had worked at Food 4 Less and Catlin’s IGA of Herington as a stocker before operating his own store. He enjoyed bowling, dancing, summer baseball, and was a Special Olympic Coach. His favorite team was KU. He supported and attended his alumni meetings for the all school reunion which were held each year. He graduated from Moline High School with the class of 1969. He is preceded in death by his parents.
He married Lyneva Sherman on June 30, 1973, at Elk Falls, and she survives at the home. He is survived by two sons Jeremy and his fiancée Carolina Gleason of Goddard, Justin of Salina, a daughter Jennifer Guffey and her husband Ryan and their daughter Kylee of Goddard, two sisters Pam Bryan of Moline, and Peggy Weaver and her husband Glennis of Sedan.

Avalon Melton, 91 formerly of Stockton passed away February 5, 2016 at Phillips County Hospital in Phillipsburg, Kansas. She was born July 10, 1924 to J.A. “Joe” and Edna (Artman) Bonebrake in Rooks County, Kansas. She was united in marriage to Frank Elvin Melton at the United Brethren Church in Woodston. He preceded her in death in August of 1974.
Funeral services are planned for 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 8, 2016 at the Stockton United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Ash Rock Cemetery north of Woodston. Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until service time on Monday at the church.
