Amy Michaele (Cairns) Russell passed away Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at Via Christi Hospital St. Francis in Wichita, Kansas at the age of 45. She was born on February 26, 1970 in Hays, Kansas to Jim and Gloria (Stremel) Cairns. She graduated from Bazine High School in Bazine, Kansas with the Class of 1988. She was united in marriage to Gary Russell on July 19, 2008 at one of her favorite places, Wilson Lake.
Amy loved being outside and spending time with those she loved most, her family and friends. She enjoyed taking hikes, swimming at the lake, and going on long walks, especially with her beloved dogs. She even liked being on the archery range, helping Gary practice for hunting season. IN the past she worked for USD 399, and had recently gone back to school at Fort Hays State University where she was to receive her philosophy degree in the spring.
Amy is survived by her husband Gary Russell of their home in Natoma; sons Dylan Jacobs of Hays and Cash Russell of Natoma; mother Gloria Schwindt and husband Dale of Alexander; father Jim Cairns and girlfriend Gloria Herrman of Hays; brothers Michael Cairns of Hays, and Devin Schwindt of Wichita; sister Kerie Schwindt of Alexander; and grandparents John W. Karlin and Ruby (Dome) Karlin of Hillsboro, Oregon; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, the Rev. Joseph Russell and Grace Cairns, Clifford James Stremel and Harry and Dorothea Schwindt.
Amy had a huge heart full of love. Her laughter, her smile, and her spirit left a trail of joy no matter where she went or who she was with. Although she left us way too soon, her life will leave a legacy that will live on for generations to come.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, February13, 2016 at the Historic Presbyterian Church in Natoma, KS. A private family inurnment will take place at a later date. Rosalie Borg was born in rural Marquette, Kansas on Sept. 23, 1915 to Ellen (Olson) Sellberg and Arthur Sellberg. She attended Wolf Creek Grade School, rural Marquette and graduated from Marquette High School. She went to Emporia State Teachers College in Emporia, Kansas, receiving her teaching certificate. She taught elementary school at Alpha School, a one-room country school for grades one through eight. In 1940 she married Edgar LeRoy Borg. Two sons followed; Daryl Lee in; 1940 and Merle Lee in 1941. After two years they moved to Wichita where LeRoy worked for Boeing Aircraft Company until he was drafted into WWII in 1945. When he came home they moved to Lindsborg and bought a farm. Carol Joan was born in 1948 and Cheryl Ann in 1950.
Rosalie was a stay-at-home-mom until the girls were of Middle School age. She then finished a Bachelor of Arts in Education Degree from Emporia State Teachers College. Her first job was teaching lst grade in Salina, Kansas. LeRoy had taken a job as a hydraulics mechanic on bombers at Schilling Air Force Base while he continued to farm. In 1965 Schilling was closed and the family moved to Las Vegas, Nevada where LeRoy worked at Nellis Air Force Base and Rosalie taught at Sunshine Elementary School for the next 10 years. They retired and moved back to Lindsborg. In July of 2005 they moved to the Cedars Assisted Living facility in McPherson, Kansas. LeRoy died in June of 2006.
She and LeRoy had eleven grandchildren; Justin Borg, Eric Borg, Matthew Borg, Dustin Borg, Jeremy Corbeille, Rebecca Jackman, Amanda Howell, Nathaniel Howell, Alicia Anderson, Olen Peterson and Maya Peterson and thirteen great-grandchildren.
She is prededed in death by her parents, Arthur and Ellen Sellberg, her husband, Edgar LeRoy Borg, brothers Bobby Sellberg (Peggy) and LeRoy Sellberg (Maxine), and sisters Marie Larson (Victor), Adeline Schafer (Bernard), and Grace George (Edward) and two daughters-in-law, Sandra (Smith) Borg and Mary (Johnson) Borg.
Survivors include: two sons, Daryl Borg of Lindsborg, KS, Merle Borg (Linda) of San Diego, CA, two daughters, Carol Peterson (Rick) of Storm Lake, IA, and Cheryl Greninger (Michael) of Sedro-Woolley, WA.
Rosalie died peachfully at the age of 100 at the Cedars Nursing Home on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016 in McPherson, Kansas.
Visitation will be Thursday, February 11, from 4-7pm at Christians Funeral Home, Lindsborg.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, February 12, at 11:00am at Messiah Lutheran Church, Lindsborg. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery, Lindsborg.
