3593682_wlppJanet Kyner Gowin, 81, Ada, died Friday, February 5, 2016 at the Salina Regional Health Center. She was born June 17, 1934 in Humeston, IA to Roy E. and Mary (Ford) Kyner.

Jan was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and friend to many. She was always ready with a kind word and a listening ear. Her home was open to all. As was her heart. She was a talented artist and known for her beautiful wheat weaving pieces. Jan managed her family farm in Iowa and here in Ada. She will be missed by many, a true gem.

She was preceded in death by her parents; longtime companion Linn Bacon; the father of her daughters Albert Ray Gowin; brother Roy E. Kyner, Jr.; and sister Virginia Jancewicz .

Survivors include her children, Ruth Waldron, Mary (Gil) Thrower, and Lisa (Alex) Johnson; grandchildren Jesse Rae Gowin, Cori Thrower, Jereme Thrower, Aaron Thrower, Tanner Johnson, and Paige Johnson; great-grandchildren Caleb Loggins, Ethan Kenyon, and Kayden Thrower; and six step-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 2:00 P.M to 6:00 P.M. Thursday at Wilson Family Funeral Home, Minneapolis, where the family will receive friends from 4-6. Graveside services will be at 11:00 A.M., Saturday at the Fairview Cemetery, Ada. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ada Youth Group.

vet_ffffffClarence Cline Stout, 92, Minneapolis, died Sunday, February 7, 2016. He was born April 28, 1923 in Minneapolis to the late Clarence McKinley and Frona (Cline) Stout.

Cline graduated from Minneapolis High School in 1941 and he served in the United States Air Force from 1943-46. He was a retired farmer.

Survivors include his wife Sharolyn; sons Robert James and Evan Lee Stout; Sharolyn’s daughters Deborah McDonald, Pamela Klewein, and Vicki Novotny; two grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his sister Mary Louise Austin.

Graveside services will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday at Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church.

ORVA GENE KILL, 76 died February 5, 2016 at in Miltonvale, KS. She was born on June 10, 1939 in Oklahoma City, OK, the daughter of Floyd and Beatrice (Ray) Goodin. Orva was raised in Norman, OK. She married Richard Kill on February 25, 1957. They made their home in Kansas City, Mobile, AL and Norman, OK before moving to Miltonvale in November 2015. Orva worked as a nurse at hospitals and for home health agencies. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors:

Husband: Richard Kill, Miltonvale, KS

Son: Mike and wife Jana Kill, Miltonvale

Daughter: Jo Ellen and husband Glenn Santa Cruz, Moibile, AL

5 Grandchildren and 7 Great-grandchildren

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at 10:30 AM at the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Miltonvale, KS

Officiating the service will be The Rev. Randall Weber

Burial will be in Miltonvale Cemetery, Miltonvale, KS

Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2016 from 9:30AM until service time at St. Anthony Catholic Church

Memorials: Dachshund Rescue of Kansas or the organization of the donor’s choice

3594874_wlppJACOB GRATER, 37 died February 6, 2016 at Clay County Medical Center in Clay Center, KS. He was born on March 2, 1978 in Clay Center, . The son of Greg and Nancy (Kopfer) Grater.

Jacob grew up in Clay Center and graduated from CCCHS in 1996. He attended Butler Community College. Returning to Clay Center, he worked for Gilmore/Tatge and Cheney Construction. Jacob then traveled with Single Source Roofing, based out of Pennsylvania, where he was a foreman. After returning to Clay Center he worked for Santee Structural. He is preceded by his father, Greg Grater and his grandfathers, Merlin Kopfer, Arnold Grater, and Bill Gonser.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, February 12, at 10:30am at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Clay Center, KS

Officiating the service will be Pastor Paul Tessaro

Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery, Clay Center, KS

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 11, 2016 from 3-8pm at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Cloe’ Grater Educational Fund c/o funeral home.

8a5bab_23a3166ddd5746958f38129a6af60859Emily Suzanne Haxton, 39, passed away February 7, 2016 in Ellsworth. She was born July 23, 1976 in Beloit, Kansas, to Melody (Ammeter) and Stephen Magette.

Emily married Kevin Haxton in Claflin, Kansas on June 5, 1999. She was a physical therapist assistant at Ellsworth County Medical Center and a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church.

Emily is survived by her husband, Kevin Haxton of Ellsworth; son, Avery Haxton of Ellsworth; daughter, Elyse Haxton of Ellsworth; parents, Steve and Melody Magette of Ellsworth; brother, Eric Magette (Kristin) of Eudora; sister, Amanda Kantack (Bryan) of Colorado Springs; and brother, Adam Magette (Crystal) of Wamego.

Visitation: 1-4 p.m., Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at Parsons Funeral Home, Ellsworth, and 5-7 p.m. at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Ellsworth, with family present.

Vigil/rosary service: 7 p.m., Wednesday, at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church.

Funeral mass: 10:00 a.m., Thursday, February 11, 2016 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, with burial following in Ellsworth Memorial Cemetery.

Downs—Lenny Todd Schmitt, 44, passed away Sunday, February 7, 2016 in Osborne, Ks.

He was born November 4, 1971 in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Lester and Lois (Hanson) Schmitt.

He attended the Helen Keller School for the Blind in Dubuque.

He is preceded in death by his father, Lester in 2013.

Survivors include his mother, Lois Schmitt of Downs; sisters, Lisa Fondell of Dubuque, IA., Laurie Schmitt of Osborne; brothers, Lonny Schmitt of Port Orchard, WA., Dustin Schmitt of Salina, and nieces and nephews.

No services are planned. Memorials may be given to the Wounded Warriors and Shriners Hospital in care of Domoney Funeral Home, PO Box 127, Downs, KS 67437.
