Chester was born in Salem, Nebraska on January 11, 1940, a son of the late Erma (Chandler) and Roy B. Shaw, Sr.

Chet was a truck driver at Love Box Co. for 20 years, and Graves Trucking, Adm Milling, Super Sweet Feeds, and the State Highway Commission throughout his life.

On May 22, 1960, Chet married Lois (Slaight) Shaw in Ellsworth, Kansas.

Chet was in the United States Air Force for four years, stationed at Schilling Air Force Base from 1958 – 1962.

Survivors include his wife Lois of the home; two daughters, Kim Frederking, and husband Tim, of Salina, Kansas, Karma Black and husband Jeff, of Abilene, Kansas; son, Kurtis Shaw, and wife Tammy of Hillsboro, Kansas; sister, Joyce VanMeter, of Olathe, Kansas.

He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Heather Mettlen, Kurtis Shaw, Chester James Shaw, Kaleb Black, KaeLeigh Black, Keaton Black, Wesley Shaw; four great grandchildren, Kelsey Shaw, Wyatt Mettlen, Hattie Mettlen, Madelyn Shaw; 2 step grandchildren and 2 step great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by sisters, Bertha and Loretta; brothers, Lester, Marvin, and Roy B. Jr.; granddaughter, Killey Shaw.

Celebration of life will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, February 19, at Carlson-Geisendorf Funeral Home, Salina, Kansas, with Buddy Aldridge officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Salina 730 Holly Lane, Box 2238 Salina, Kansas 67401 or Hope Lodge 1120 Pennsylvania Ave, Kansas City, MO 64105.

Mildred-Rittger-1455619440Mildred Marie Rittger, 102, of Salina, Kansas, passed away Saturday, February 13, 2016.

Mildred was born in Rural Saline County, KS on January 31, 1914, a daughter of the late Elizabeth (Diehl) and Adolph Lebert.

She was a primarily a homemaker as well as a hairdresser and postal employee. Mildred was also an accomplished organist and pianist. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.

In April, 1936, Mildred married Vernon Rittger and he precedes her in death.

Survivors include daughter, Rita M. Kauffman, and husband Robert, of Columbus, Ohio; son, Melvin Rittger, of Salina, Kansas; 4 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren.

Mildred is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vernon L. Rittger; son, Gary Rittger; sisters; Viola Wagner, Lavina Gay; and brother, Alvin Leibert.

Visitation will be Wednesday, February 17th from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Carlson-Geisendorf Funeral Home.

Funeral service at Carlson-Geisendorf Funeral Home, Salina, Kansas, at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 18th, with Rev. Kent Happel officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie Mound Cemetery Ellsworth, Kansas.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 255 S. 7th, Salina, Kansas 67401.

Roger-Fountain-1455536606Roger E. Fountain, 54, of Salina, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, February 9th, peacefully, at Salina Regional Health Center, Kansas.

Roger was born in Phoenix, Arizona on March 16, 1961, a son of the late Frances and Leroy Fountain.

Roger worked for McDonald’s restaurants around Salina for 17 years. Roger was a man who always had a smile and a kind word for everybody.

Survivors include brothers, Bob Fountain, of Salina, Kansas, Steve Fountain, of Salina, Kansas, Barry Fountain, of Salina, Kansas, Billy Joe Fountain, of Newton, Kansas; Bruce Hedstrom, of Salina, Kansas, Gerald Fountain, of Salina, Kansas, Lon Hofman, of Wamego, Kansas; sisters, Cindy Jimmerson, of Salina, Kansas, Julie Hofman, of Ogden, Kansas;

He is preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.

Cremation has taken place.

A reception will be held with Roger’s family present from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 20, 2016 at Carlson-Geisendorf Funeral Home. Inurnment will follow at the Bennington Cemetery.

Melba Etta Ihde was born July 19, 1918 on a farm in Marion County, Kansas. She died February 16, 2016 at St. Luke’s Living Center in Marion, Kansas. Melba was the third of five children born to Etta (Wilke) Ihde and Arthur Ihde. She attended Bartholdi Elementary School as did her father and children. She then graduated from Tampa High School.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dickinson County until it closed. April 17, 1940 she married Harvey Clarence Ihde (no relation). They met at church and were active members.
She as a Sunday School Teacher, Youth Group Sponsor, Scripture Memory Leader, Vacation Bible School Teacher and Women’s Missionary Society President. Harvey served as Clerk, Treasurer, Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and in his youth as custodian with his father.
In 1990 Melba and Harvey celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Their daughter, Barbara and husband Ted celebrated their 50th in 2013. Melba’s parents and both sets of grandparents also celebrated their 50th anniversaries as did Melba’s brother Roscoe with Jackie and their daughter, Donna with Bill Chafin.
Melba is survived by three children Barbara Howland and husband Ted, Linda Ihde, David Ihde and his wife Mona; four grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, and eight great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Harvey on September 11, 1999, her parents, her brothers Orville, Roscoe, Maurice, and Raymond; her grandson Leon Ihde in 1998 and her granddaughter Tina McCallister in 2015.
Melba was a gentle, quiet, and caring woman who aided members in all generations of her family over the long years of her life. She will be sorely missed by everyone in her family.
The family of Melba wishes to thank the staff for their kind and loving care during her residence at St. Luke’s and also wishes to thank the staff of Good Shepherd Hospice for easing her last days.
Funeral services for Melba will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 20, 2016 at the Carlson-Becker Funeral Home in Hope with Pastor Chester Strobel officiating. Her final resting place will be in the First Baptist Church Cemetery. The family of Melba will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to The Good Shepherd Hospice to Crusade for Christ and may sent in care of the Carlson-Becker Funeral Home, P.O. Box 355, Hope, Kansas 67451.

87, passed away Monday, February 15th, in Abilene. She was born November 6, 1928 in Junction City the daughter of Gilbert H. and Leota M. (Timm) Martinitz. Growing up on a farm in the Lyona Community north of Woodbine, Arlene attended local schools and graduated from Chapman High School with the class of 1947 and Stewart Beauty School in December of 1947. She had been a Beauty operator for 51 years. On December 1, 1948 she was married to Virgil Kohman. He preceded her in death March 23, 1992. On March 21, 1998 Arlene was married to Nathan Ade of Gypsum. He preceded her in death August 5, 2014. She was also preceded in death by a son, Jerry Kohman; two sisters, Donna Macoubrie and Violet Lehner and three brothers, Paul, Lee and Eugene Martinitz. Arlene was a member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church.

Dienst, 83, passed away January 27, 2015, at Asbury Park of Newton, Kansas.  He was born June 16, 1932, at Coffeyville, Kansas.  He was the son of Eugene S. and Ruby M. (Matlock) Dienst.  He was a graduate of Coffeyville High School.  On September 29, 1951, he was united in marriage to Sharilyn Dee McCoy in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.  In 1955, received his Doctorate from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee.  He started his practice in Girard, Kansas.  In 1960, he moved his family to Wichita, Kansas.  He provided optometric care the Wichita and Newton areas for over 50 years.  He was a member of Palmyra Baptist Church.  His hobbies included:  raising and training bird dogs, hunting, fishing, horseback riding, carpentry, wood and stone carving, oil painting, playing various musical instruments, building and flying remote control airplanes, building and using various campers and boats, and raising cats, dogs and various livestock.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Sharilyn in 2006, and a his daughter, Dinah in 2008.  He is survived by his sons:  John D. Dienst and his wife Carol of Arlington; Jeremy B. Dienst and his wife Cinda of Valley Center; and James H. Dienst and his wife Judy of Robins AFB, Georgia; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.  A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 18, 2016, at Columbus Avenue Church of Christ in Newton, with Pastor Buddy Aldridge presiding.  Inurnment will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, at Green Valley Cemetery, Furley.  Memorial Funds have been established for St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the Children’s Miracle Network in care of Lamb Funeral Home, 120 S Main, Whitewater, KS, 67154.

Paulette was raised in Clyde and graduated from Clyde High School. She worked at Elk State Bank in Clyde. She moved to Clay Center in 1967 and worked at Union State Bank. Paulette operated Mode O’ Day clothing store from 1977 until 2000. She then worked as a clerk at Pamida from 2000 to 2007 and at Ray’s Apple Market fron 2007 to 2011. Paulette was a member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church and Kansas Laureate Beta Pi Sorority. She was preceded in death by her parents.

She was born on October 19, 1929 to Richard and Flora Bagby of southern Illinois.

Dorothy loved her family, the Lord and making music.  She played piano, accordion and

organ by ear  and shared her  gift as a church accompanist.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her ten siblings; Richard, Ervin, Austin, Cecil,

Floella, Helen, Mabel, Erma, Bernard and one stillborn baby. Of her own five children, she

was preceded by one son, Timothy and one daughter, (Oliva) Diane. Dorothy

was also preceded in death by three husbands; Carl McClellan, Bert Points, Sr. and

Ronald Jenisch.

Dorothy is survived by three children, Sharon and Bob Morrissette, Bert and Audrey Points, Jr.

and Stanley Points; grandchildren, Mindy, Amy, Chelsie, Steven, Michael, Bethany and Troy;

and many, much loved great-grandchildren.

Private family services are being held.  She will be buried in Alden Valley Cemetery, Alden.

Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling.

3601792_wlppvet_ffffffAnn (Tyson) Tedrow was born March 25, 1923 to Noel and Ida (Carr) Tyson at Scottsbluff, Nebraska. She passed away February 13, 2016 in Belleville, Kansas.

Ann graduated from Cambridge Nebraska High School in 1941, and entered nursing training at Omaha Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska, in August of 1941, graduating as an RN in 1944. Ann joined the Army Nurse Corp in January 1945, serving as a 2nd lieutenant. She was sent overseas to the Philippines and Japan. She was discharged from the service in April 1946.

Ann married Mondo C. Tedrow in 1947, at Imperial, Nebraska. Together they moved to Scandia, Kansas, in 1951. She worked in the nursing profession in Belleville and Mankato, of which 17 years were at the Jewel County Hospital Mankato, Kansas. She was a member of Kansas State Nurses Association (KSNA) during that time. She retired from nursing in 1986. After retiring Ann enjoyed volunteer work, time with children and grandchildren, and traveling.

Ann was a member of the Harmony Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and Sarah Circle. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary 7830 Mankato, Kansas.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and three brothers; Ben Tyson, Bill Tyson, and Dan Tyson.

Survivors include 2 daughters, Barbara (Dave) Trembley of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Betty Jo (Doug) Sederlin of Belleville, Kansas, 4 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Wednesday from 9:00am to 8:00pm at Melby Mortuary in Mankato, Kansas. Services will be Thursday at 1:00pm at the Harmony Methodist Church in Mankato, Kansas, with Pastor Gerry Sharp officiating. Mrs. Pat Grout was the organist and Mr. Philip Menhusen was the soloist, who sung “How Great Thou Art,” “It Is Well with My Soul,” and “Amazing Grace.” Interment was in the Riverview Cemetery, Scandia, Kansas, beside her husband. Memorials to Jewel County Hospital or Harmony United Methodist Church. Melby Mortuary of Mankato, Kansas was in charge of arrangements.

3601753Fern Opal Stigge, 97, died Monday, February 15, 2016 at the Linn Community Nursing Home, Linn, KS.

Visitation will be Thursday, February 18, from 4 until 8 p.m. at the Ward Funeral Home, Linn, KS. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

A funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, February 19 at Zion Lutheran Church, Linn.

Burial will be at 1 p.m. in the St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery, Barnes.

Fern was born on October 28, 1918 in her parents’ home near Bodaville, KS, the daughter of Alvin and Christina (Wichman) Wohler. She was confirmed as an adult at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Barnes. She attended Barnes High School and graduated from Clay County Community High School in 1938. Fern attended six weeks of Normal Training and then taught in a one room school until she married. On December 3, 1942, she was united in holy matrimony with Victor A. Stigge in Greenleaf, KS. The Lord blessed their marriage with two children, Barbara and Sharon. Fern was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Barnes.

Her husband was in the Armed Forces and they moved around to many places in the early years of their marriage. She and her husband lived on a farm south of Barnes for many years. She enjoyed her large gardens, farm life and the outdoors. Fern moved to Linn in July, 1988. In Linn, she helped with crafts in the Linn Community Nursing Home, playing cards and board games. She was an avid KU Basketball fan. Also, she loved to visit her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include her two daughters, Barbara Schauer and husband, Rev. Arthur Schauer, Seward, NE, Sharon Adam and husband Eldean, Harbine, NE; four grandchildren, Kristal (John) Auty, Dallas, TX, Kimberly Schauer, Rochester, MN, David (Sarah) Schauer, Omaha, NE and Tamera Adam, Omaha, NE; four great grandchildren, Olivia, Marshall, and Bennett Schauer and Clara Auty; brother, Jerome (Jan) Wohler, Topeka; sister, Ila (Bob) Logan, Concordia; sister-in-law, Phyllis Wohler, Topeka; good friend, Nancy Lehman, Linn; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Victor; brother, Orville Wohler; three sisters, Wilma Jackson, Leona Burks, Betty Koch; and two infant granddaughters, Angela and Caroline Schauer.

A memorial fund is established to the Lutheran Hour, Zion Lutheran Church or St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home, Washington, KS.

Jordan,BarbaracoverpicBarbara Jean (Lindsley) Jordan, 88, of Russell, Kansas,
passed away on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at Main Street Manor of Russell.

Barbara was born June 2, 1927 in Denver, Colorado, the daughter of Guy and Mable (Dickenson) Lindsley.  She grew up on a farm in southeast Kansas near Benedict.  She graduated from Fredonia High School in Fredonia, Kansas.  

Barbara was united in marriage to Ralph W. Jordan on January 26,
1945 in Independence, Kansas.  This union was blessed with two sons; Randall and Monte.  In the late 40’s they moved to Russell where she has resided the rest of her life.  Ralph preceded her in death on April 3, 1995.

Barbara was a devoted wife and homemaker for her boys.  She helped her husband by doing the bookkeeping for Bud’s Fluid Level Services.  She was active member of the Trinity United Methodist Church.  She was a member of the Russell Historical Society and a guide
at the Gernon House, a member of the Deines Cultural Center.  Ralph and she enjoyed collecting and restoring antiques.  She also enjoyed spending time in her flower garden.

Surviving family include her son Randall Jordan (Vickie) of Tulsa, Oklahoma; sister Sharon Galyardt of Everett, Washington; two grandchildren, Jamie Gabriel (Adam) of Lawrence, Kansas and Shane Jordan (Laura) of Telluride, Colorado;
four great grandchildren, Matthew, Grace, Simon and Eli.  Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ralph, and son Monte Jordan.

Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, February 18, 2016 at the Russell City Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell with the family present to greet friends from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the mortuary.  A Memorial has been established with the Town & Country Animal Hospital.  Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.
