6116131_220w_1Bonnie R. Long, 79, of Salina, passed away Monday, March 28, 2016. She was born June 30, 1936 in Topeka, KS.

Bonnie retired from Salina Regional Health Center as an RN after 38 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy L. and Norma R. (Clark) Fritz; brother, Daniel G. Fritz; and half-sister, Naida (Morris) Rake.

Survivors include her loving husband of 60 years; Gaylen L. Long of the home; son, Jeff Long of Salina; daughters, Marla (Dan) Murry of Salina, Valeri (Bryan) Sandmeier of Maryville, TN, Kelley (Hassan) Sayyar of Monticello, AR, and Cindy (John) Charles of Salina; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Visitation will be on Friday, April 1, 2016 from 2-8pm with family to receive guests from 6-8pm at Roselawn Heights Memorial Chapel, 1920 East Crawford, Salina.

There will be a private family graveside service held.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Salina in care of Roselawn Mortuary, PO Box 2322, Salina, 67402.

6123693_220wFern Marie Klameth was born Dec. 2, 1931 in Westphalia, Kansas to Clarence & Frieda Henkle. She married James Klameth, Jr. on June 12, 1949 in Ellsworth, Kansas. She passed away on March 29, 2016 at the age of 84.
Fern lived in Salina, Kansas around 60 years, attending Trinity Lutheran Church until she moved to Edmond, OK and attended Holy Trinity Lutheran Church until her death.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and daughter Marilyn Peterson. She is survived by her son, Jack Klameth and his wife Linda, daughter, Diana McCourtney; eight grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren; brother, Carl Henkle of Great Bend, Kansas.
Prior to the graveside service will be a visitation from 12:30pm-1:30pm at Roselawn Heights Memorial Chapel, 1920 E. Crawford, Salina.
Graveside Service will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park, Salina, Kansas on Saturday April 2, 2016 at 2:00 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the Lutheran Hour.

bar60324John Muir Barber, 92, Salina, died March 24, 2016. He was born December 28, 1923 in San Francisco and was raised in Sausalito, California. During WWII, John worked at the Office of War Information Overseas Broadcasting and NBC. He graduated from Westmont College and Dallas Theological Seminary. He was involved in church music programs and in wilderness camping programs for Big Brothers and Salesmanship Club Boys Camp. For several years, he worked with the Dallas County Juvenile Probation Office. He sang in the Dallas Civic Opera for sixteen years and in the Dallas Civic Chorus.

In Salina, Kansas he was one of the directors of the Passport for Adventure Program for fifteen years, a wilderness program sponsored by St. Francis Academy. He continued in church music at Sunrise Presbyterian Church and First Presbyterian Church in Salina.

He is survived by a sister, Celia Sargis of Modesto, California.

Memorial services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at First Presbyterian Church, 308 S. 8th, Salina, with Rev. Charlie Smith officiating. Private inurnment will be in Highland Cemetery, New Cambria. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church. Ryan Mortuary is handling arrangements.

geo60329Shirley J. George, 85, of Salina, passed away Tuesday, March 29, 2016. She was born March 20, 1931, in Waukegan, Ill., the daughter of Harry and Audrey (Drennan) LeMieux.

Shirley and her husband, David Sr., owned and operated several restaurants in Waukegan and Salina. They ran the original Holiday Inn Restaurant and George’s Restaurant in Salina.

Shirley loved being with family and her faithful companion Buddy. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, reading and learning new things. She was slow to anger, quick to forgive and content in all circumstances.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, David Sr.; brother, Richard; and sister, Pat Friegen.

Survivors include her sons, David George Jr. and Rick (Kim) George; daughters, Susan (Dan) Harris and Laura Mitchell, all of Salina; grandchildren, Jeff Harris, Zach Harris, Keith George, David George III, Audrey George, Shelby George, Matt Davidson and Amy Copp; and great-grandchildren, Parker Harris, Carson Harris, Will Harris, Eli Harris, Madeline Harris and Charlotte Copp.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, April 4, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Salina, with inurnment at a later date in North Shore Garden of Memories Cemetery, North Chicago, Ill.

Memorials are to the Tammy Walker Cancer Center or Friends of the Salina Animal Shelter. Ryan Mortuary, Salina, is handling arrangements.

mor60330Rebecca Ann Morrison, 98, of Salina, passed away Wednesday, March 30, 2016. She was born April 23, 1917, in Rocky Ford, Colo., to Benjamin and Amy (Burns) Stauffer. Rebecca married Milton L. Morrison on Nov. 26, 1937, in Rocky Ford. Milton preceded her in death in 2003.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Salina. Becky had served the church in virtually every facet, including as a member of the Session, board of trustees, deacon, search committees for two ministers, Sunday school teacher and Cub Scout leader. She served for many years on the Cares and Concern Committee, which writes letters to congregation members who have happy or sad events in their lives. Becky served two terms on the advisory board for the Presbyterian Manor and was a member of the steering committee for the annual fundraising soup supper. She enjoyed being a team member of the famous apple pie baking committee for the supper. Becky was also the honorary chairwoman of the fund drive for the Milton L. Morrison Memory Support Center at Salina Presbyterian Manor.

Becky had been a major positive force as a volunteer in her community since moving to Salina in 1946. Becky served as a trustee for Asbury/Salina Regional Hospital for 36 years and was chairwoman from 1977-79. She was recognized as the only trustee emeritus, to date. She was also a charter member of the hospital foundation when it was formed in 1985 and served until 1993 on the Foundation Board of Trustees. Becky was an active supporter of the Rebecca A. Morrison House, which was named in her honor in recognition of her many years of service to the community. She was the president and board member of the Salina Public Library for many years. Becky helped found Meals On Wheels and continued delivering meals for more than 30 years. She served as a facilitator for grief support groups, which served the greater Salina area. She was a co-chairwoman for a major fundraising drive for capital improvements for McPherson College, and a dormitory was named in Rebecca and Milton Morrison’s honor in 1998. Becky was an active supportive member of the DL Chapter of PEO for 61 years and served as president in 1962-63.

In addition to her husband, Becky was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Amy Stauffer, and her brother, Oliver Burns Stauffer.

Becky, “Gaga” to her grandchildren, is survived by her sons, Roger (Sissy) Morrison and Richard (Sallie) Morrison, all of Salina; grandchildren, Amy (Mark) Dobbins, of Olathe, Megan (Michael) Grossman, of Leawood, Aaron Morrison, of Salina, Molly Morrison (Reggie Britt), of Leawood, Jeffrey (Mary Margaret) Morrison, of Lawrence, and Mindy Morrison (Matt Drevets), of Olathe; and great-grandchildren, Connor Dobbins, Graham Dobbins, Cole Mitchelson, Maura Kate Mitchelson, Meryl Mitchelson, Greta Grossman, Lucas Snyder, Gabriel Snyder, Eli Snyder, Asa Morrison, Shepherd Morrison, Neely Morrison, Eden Morrison, Gracen Gueldner, Cameron Gueldner and Sarah Beth Gueldner.

Those who knew Becky remark what a good listener she was, and how caring and selfless, also. She dedicated her life to her family and her community and we are all the richer for it. Becky’s family expresses their heartfelt thanks to the staff and residents of Salina Presbyterian Manor, who enriched her life during the 20 years she spent there. As she often said, “If you cannot be at home, the Manor is a good place to be.”

Kaye Pogue Hospice Center at Hospice of Salina was a godsend for Becky and all who love her. We offer our gratitude and deep appreciation for Becky’s dedicated and loving caregivers: Charlie and Reta Cain, Linda Leach, Virginia LeDuc, Mary Jones, Leon Marrs, Linda Phelps, Donna Smith and Alta Thacker.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 2, at First Presbyterian Church, 308 S. Eighth St., Salina 67401, after a private burial service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to First Presbyterian Church, Salina, Presbyterian Manor or Rebecca A. Morrison House, and left in care of Ryan Mortuary.

blu60323Terry E. Blundred, 47, as he was known and loved by all, was born in Salina to parents Terry L. and Frieda May (Lynch) Blundred on Oct, 30, 1968, and left this world on March 23, 2016. Terry was raised by his mother, as his parents had divorced when he was very young.

Terry graduated from Salina South High School in 1987 and then obtained an Associate of Science degree in business from Brown Mackie College, with his education continued at Kansas Wesleyan University. He pursued his career path working at Rema Bakeware until it closed and worked in the aircraft industry with Beechcraft, Hawker-Beech and Raytheon, along with working at Kmart. He was last employed with Arvos in Concordia.

Terry was a member of Bennington Bible Church in Bennington. He treasured spending time and making memories with his family and friends. Terry loved video games, biking, golfing, fishing and attending Kansas State University football games with his uncle. Terry had a love for sports, and his favorite NFL team was the Green Bay Packers.

He had a very kind, generous spirit, which was apparent through his actions in life. He cared for his mother through her final days.

Left to mourn Terry’s passing and celebrate his life are his beloved children, Trinity and Tristan Blundred. His children were the love of his life, and there was not anything he would not have done for them.

Terry is survived by his dearest aunt, Sandy (Lynch) Utley, of Salina; uncle, Tom and Virginia Lynch, of Glasco; uncle, Dwight and Diane Listerm, of Chapman; cousins, Heidi, Matt, Andy and Shelby Rouse of Phoenix, Ariz., Gary and Brooke, Mason, Emilee, Quinn Utley and Payton Powell, of Salina, Carmen Lynch and Blair Huffman, of Salina, Darrin and Tricia Lynch, of WaKeeney, and Dustin and Danielle Lister of Chapman; great-aunt, Lorena Petzold, of Miltonvale; great-uncle, Jim and great-aunt Gail Francis, of Salina; great-uncle, Arnold Pilcher, of Salina; great-uncle, Rick and great-aunt Jan Pilcher, of Nixa Mo.; special family friend, Shirley Rothfuss, of Salina; many other family and friends, and the mother of his children, Tina.

A memorial service to honor Terry’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 2, at Grand Avenue United Methodist Church, 304 W. Grand Ave., Salina, with Pastor Doug Birdsong officiating.

Cremation has preceded the services, and inurnment of the cremains will follow the chapel service at approximately 3 p.m. at Delphos Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the children’s education fund at Sunflower Bank to the Terry Blundred Memorial Fund. Ryan Mortuary of Salina is handling service arrangements.

3643409_wlppvet_ffffffRobert “Ted” Ryser, age 66, Clyde resident, entered into rest on, March 29, 2016 at the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. He was born on January 6, 1950 to Edward C. and Ruth K. Ryser.
Ted attended Dist. 59 grade school in Ames, Kansas and graduated from Clyde High School 1968. He also graduated from NCK Beloit AVTS Heavy Equipment Operator Program; Ted worked most all his life as a Truck Driver for several companies; He was a Aux. member of the V.F.W. Post #7515. Ted enjoyed hunting, fishing, grilling and his dog Max.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 1, 2016 from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Chaput Mortuary Clyde. Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Memorial Contributions may be given to American Diabetes Association in care of Chaput Mortuary, Clyde.

3644001_wlppZella I. Hamel, age 96, left her earthly home on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at Sunset Nursing Home, Concordia. She was born on Oct. 2, 1919 in Oakley, KS to Louis J. & Georgiana (Benoit) Hamel.
Zella lived in Goodland, KS. She worked as a waitress in the Goodland area and was a member of the Catholic Church in Goodland. She returned to Concordia in 1995.
She is survived by several nieces & nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Wilbert & Elmer Hamel & sisters, Leda Ribordy & Delena Marcotte.
Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Sunday, April 3, 2016 with a Rosary at 6:00 p.m., family will greet friends after the Rosary all at Chaput-Buoy funeral home.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday April 4, 2016 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, St. Joseph, KS.
The family suggests memorials to Guardians of the St. Joseph Church in care of the funeral home.

Andover – Pamela Sue Hartman, 59, went to be with her loving Savior Jesus Christ early Tuesday morning on March 29, 2016.

Pam was born February 7, 1957, to her parents Palmer and Lucille Base in Goessel, Kansas.  She trusted Jesus Christ as her Savior at a Bible Camp in Hutchinson, Kansas.  After graduation from Hillsboro High School in 1975, she entered cosmetology school in Salina, Kansas to study to be a hairdresser.  She later worked for Farmer’s Alliance Insurance in McPherson, Kansas.  She married her best friend Merle Hartman on August 6, 1983.

While living in Huntington, Indiana for a time, Pam helped Merle by typing his papers while he attended Bible College and Seminary; she worked for an insurance company during this time.

When Merle was called to his first pastorate in Chanute, Kansas, Pam worked as an office manager for seven rural water districts.  In Wichita, she worked for the Union Rescue Mission for six and a half years.  For the last eight and half years, she worked for Pine Valley Christian Church in Wichita.

Pam loved to sew and play piano.  She loved Brookhaven Baptist Church in Wichita, reading her Bible, and praying.  Most of all, she loved her Savior, Jesus Christ.

Pam is survived by her husband Merle of Andover, Kansas and her father Palmer Base of rural Tampa, Kansas, preceded in death by her mother Lucille Base, and brother Merrill Base.

Celebration of Life Service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 1, 2016 at Brookhaven Baptist Church of Wichita Officiated by Pastor Rob Kelley.  Interment 2:00 p.m. Friday at Banner Cemetery of Elmo, Kansas.  Visitation will be from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Thursday at Jost Funeral Home in Hillsboro.  Memorials to Brookhaven Baptist Church of Pine Valley Christian Church in care of Jost Funeral Home P.O. LeRoy Allen Wessel passed away Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas at the age of 64. He was born on March 28, 1952 in Axtell, Kansas to the late Raymond and Mary (Brucken) Wessel. He attended Topeka High School in Topeka, Kansas and moved to Plainville, Kansas after graduation. On November 25, 1977 he was united in marriage to Julia Rogers at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Stockton, Kansas.

Upon moving to Plainville, LeRoy went to work in the oilfields on a pulling unit. He worked his way up in the industry, and in May 1992, he began working for Kansas Fishing Tool, Inc. of Great Bend, Kansas as a Senior Field Supervisor. He was very knowledgeable, enjoyed the work, and was well respected by his peers and co-workers.

LeRoy enjoyed hunting and fishing, as well as traveling. His favorite trip was traveling with the family to visit England and Scotland. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Plainville and the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his wife Julia Wessel of the home in Plainville; daughters Kimberly Wessel of Plainville, Lori Wessel of Plainville, Nicole Wessel of Denver, CO, and Michele Wessel of Plainville; brother John Wessel of Plainville; sisters Ruth Appelhanz and husband Whitey of Topeka, Mary Jane Dennis and husband Kirby of Topeka, Arlene Evans and husband John of Topeka, and Marjorie Andrew of Aurora, CO; brothers-in-law Kent Rogers of Kansas City, MO, and Tim Burgardt of Garden City; and sisters-in-law Sandra Rogers of Solomon, and Tina Burgardt of Garden City.

He was preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Mary Wessel, and brother-in-law Charles Rogers.

LeRoy was a man of faith and character. He was a perfect example of someone who worked hard to take care of his family, and was a friend who could be depended upon. His love and laughter, along with the good times and memories, will live in our hearts forever.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00am on Friday, April 1, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Plainville. Burial will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00-4:30pm on Thursday at the funeral home and from 6:00-8:00pm at the church with Vigil starting at 7:00pm.

Downs,KS—Georgia L. Cowley, 97, passed away Monday, March 28, 2016 in Osborne.  She was born on February 22, 1919 in Covert, Ks.,  the daughter of Charles and Luella (Taylor) Curtis.

She married Thorald Cowley on July 20, 1941.  She was a housewife/homemaker.

Mrs. Cowley is preceded in death by her husband, Thorald,  in 2011; sisters, Fannie Kaser, Jenny Jewell, Emma May Kunish, Nellie Winder, Maude Lockhart; brothers, Harold Curtis, Dale Curtis, William Curtis, Homer Curtis, and Dean Curtis.

She is survived by her daughters, Babette Rathbun of Columbia, South Carolina and Janet Wooddancer-Fisher of Tucson, Arizona, 4 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 2, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Downs.

Visitation will be Friday evening, April 1 from 7-8:30 at Domoney Funeral Home, Downs.

Memorials may be given to the United Methodist Church  and the Downs Golf Club.

Margaret Lillian Nelson, 91, of Lindsborg, passed away March 30, 2016.

She was born April 8, 1924, the daughter of Emmanuel and Verlie Emeline (Linderholm) Keding in Elko, NV.

On October 11, 1942, Margaret was united in marriage in Lindsborg, KS to Warren LaVerne Johnson Sr. He passed away December 19, 1985. On June 25, 1988, Margaret married John Nelson in Salina, KS.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Warren, sisters: Vivian McCoy, Ellen Box, brother, Robert Keding, and granddaughter, Mindy Lloyd.

Margaret leaves behind many loved ones including her husband, John Nelson of Lindsborg, sons: Daryl Johnson (Kola) of Lindsborg, Dr. Warren Johnson (Becky) of Keystone, CO, daughter, Margie Lloyd of Lindsborg, step-children; Mark Nelson (Jeannie) of Albuquerque, NM, Julie Nelson (Nathan Myers) of Albuquerque, NM, Curtis Nelson (Jan) of Ellsworth, KS, brother, Willard Keding of Lindsborg, sisters: Clarice Hayes of Angier, NC, Kathryn Frantz of Lindsborg, and several grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and step-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Sunday, April 3, from 5-7pm at the Bethany Home Activities Room, Lindsborg.

Private family burial will be Monday, April 4, at Elmwood Cemetery, Lindsborg, followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00am at Messiah Lutheran Church, Lindsborg.
