Lloyd Nemnich, 96 of Clay Center, died June 7, 2016 at Medicalodge in Clay Center. He was born March 15, 1920 in Clay Center, the son of Meryl and Edna (Roenigk) Nemnich. Lloyd was raised in Bloom township and graduated from CCCHS in 1937. He served in the US Army during WWII where her received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. Lloyd married Maxine Kaiser on April 30, 1943. Following the war, he farmed in Bloom township. Maxine preceded him in death on November 3, 2013. Lloyd was a member the First Baptist Church, life member of the V.F.W. and served on many boards in the church and the community. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Marla Kay Nemnich and 3 brothers

LaVerna Mae “Vernie” Beaston, 87 passed away Monday. June 6, 2016 at Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan, Kansas.
She was born in McPherson, Kansas on June 20, 1928 to LL and Martha Grunewald Knight. She moved to Marion at the age of one year old and attended Marion High School and Emporia State University.
She married Jack Beaston October 1, 1950 in Marion, KS. Jack proceeded her in death on December 17, 2008.
Vernie worked at the Marion National Bank and Hannahford Abstract before purchasing Beaston Market with her husband Jack. She helped with every aspect of the business and enjoyed her many faithful customers through the years. They were once featured on Hatteberg’s People. Aside from running a business, Vernie loved playing bridge, singing, and above all, her family. She was also a faithful member of Valley United Methodist Church.
In 2013 she moved to Manhattan to be closer to her daughter and family. There she had an extended family at Via Christi Village where she brought joy to everyone she met. She was known to everyone for her singing, compliments, and expressions of love.
She will be missed by many including her daughter Marty Heigert and husband Chuck of Alma, Kansas; her son Brooke Beaston of Jackson,Tennessee; her grandchildren Meggan Messersmith and husband Jordan of Lexington, Nebraska; Abby Heigert of Alma, Kansas; and Sami Leisinger and husband Ethan of Chattanooga, Tennessee; her sister Jean Pierce of Marion, Kansas; niece Jill Miller and husband Ron of Grapevine, Texas; and nephew Mark Kiline of Ukiah, California.
Services are Friday June 10, at 11:00 at Valley Methodist Church in Marion, Kansas. Memorials may be made to Valley United Methodist Church in Marion, Kansas or to Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan, Kansas.

Charles Donald Vopat, Sr., 79, passed away June 7, 2016 at his home near Black Wolf, KS. He was born January 18, 1937 to Catherine Ann (Foran) and John L. Vopat, Sr. in Ellsworth. He married Lucy Janda in Wilson, KS on September 17, 1957.
A lifetime resident of Ellsworth County, Charles was a farmer, stockman, and machinist at Cashco. He was a member of Knights of Columbus and St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wilson.
Charles is survived by his wife, Lucy Vopat of Wilson; daughter, Veronica Kyler (Tim) of Ellsworth; son, Charles Vopat, Jr. (Ellaine) of Ellsworth; son, Mark Vopat (Rachel Muro) of Kanopolis; daughter, Joan Johnson (Brad Kralik) of Ellsworth; daughter Mary Ann Heard of Ellsworth; daughter Amanda Vopat (Travis Oakes) of Loveland, CO; 14 grandchildren; and 21 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John L. Vopat, Jr.; and sister, Mary Jo Cisneros.
Visitation: 1-7 p.m., Friday, June 10, 2016 at Parsons Funeral Home, Ellsworth, with family present from 6-7 p.m. and a vigil/rosary service at 7 p.m.
Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 11, 2016 at St. Wenceslaus in Wilson with burial following in the Wilson Catholic Cemetery.

Mildred Mary Finnesy, 84, of Paradise and Russell County, Kansas, died on Wednesday, June 08, 2016, at the Ellinwood District Hospital in Ellinwood, Kansas.
Mildred was born on September 14, 1931, in the family home north of Russell, Kansas. The daughter of John W. and Margaret E. (Stielow) Fuller. She grew up in the Rural Russell, Kansas, area and graduated from Waldo High School in the class of 1949. She graduated from Kansas State University in 1953, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Home Economics. She met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Joseph Patrick Finnesy on August 26, 1957, at the Episcopal Church in Hays, Kansas. From this union Mildred and Joe were blessed with 2 daughters Kathleen and Karen. During the first few years of marriage, she worked as a teacher in Inman and Natoma, Kansas, and taught Home Economics. When she gave birth to her daughter Kathleen, she gave up teaching and decided to become a fulltime homemaker and farm wife. She was a former member of the Russell St. Elizabeth’s Episcopal Church and was a member of the Paradise Dell E.H.U. She enjoyed reading, sewing, cooking and being a farm wife. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and close friends.
Surviving family include her husband Joseph P. Finnesy, of the home, daughters Kathleen Waitt and husband Jim of Great Bend, Kansas and Karen Polson and husband Brad of Manhattan, Kansas and a brother Stephen Fuller and wife Martha of College Station, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant son.
A celebration of Mildred’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, June 10, 2016, at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell, Kansas, with Pastor Roger Dennis officiating. Burial will follow at the Russell City Cemetery. Visitation will be from Noon to 8 P.M. on Thursday, June 09, 2016, at the mortuary with family to greet guests from 7 P.M. to 8 P.M. Thursday evening. Memorials may be given to the Russell Regional Hospital and sent in care of the mortuary. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell is in charge of the funeral services.
