Sandra-Neilson-1467631446Sandra “Sandy” L. (Prager) Neilson, 71, of Moundridge, KS passed away on Saturday, July 2, 2016, at Mercy Hospital, Moundridge. She had been a Moundridge resident since 1972, formerly of Mankato, KS and Chicago, IL. She retired from Abbott Labs in McPherson and worked as a server in the Moundridge Elementary School’s cafeteria.

Sandy was born on January 28, 1945, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of David L. and Sophia L. (Loumbas) Prager. She graduated from Homewood-Flossmoor High School in Homewood, IL. Sandy was united in marriage to Larry D. Neilson on June 12, 1965, in Chicago, IL.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, McPherson.

Survivors include: her loving husband of 51 years, Larry Neilson of the home; son, Rick Neilson and wife, Connie, of Overland Park, KS; daughter, Cassie Plenert and husband, Steve, of McPherson, KS; brother, George Prager of Hammond, IN; sister, Marianne Shaffer and husband, Larry, of Mundelein, IL; five grandchildren, David & Ashley Plenert and Erick, Brynn, & Courtney Neilson; and two faithful canine companions, Missy Roz and Cooper.

She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Sophia Prager.

The memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, July 8, 2016, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, McPherson.

Memorial donations may be given to Sandy Neilson Scholarship Fund for the benefit of her grandchildren’s education in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home, 205 North Chestnut, McPherson, KS 67460.

Janet Elaine Brockway, 79, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, July 2nd, 2016 while in the company of family members, at Angel Arms.

Janet was born in Lincoln, Kansas on February 6, 1937, a daughter of Edna Cornelius (Johnson) and Everett Ralph Gislar.

Janet attended the Lincoln grade school and graduated from Lincoln High School, Lincoln, Kansas. She then attended Fort Hays State University, Hays, Kansas.

She was a member of First Baptist Church McPherson, where she served her church through the years in many capacities.

Janet worked at the Hundred Mark Grocery, the Rexall Drug Store at the soda fountain, the Soil Conservation office, and at the Court House all of Lincoln, Kansas. She was also a homemaker, and she took great pride in providing for her family in this manner. Later, she went back to work at Home State Bank and Trust in the accounting department.

Janet was a coach for Weight Watchers. She enjoyed sewing, her canine companions, baking, and traveling.

Janet Elaine Gislar was united in marriage to Earl Eugene “Bud” Brockway on September 23, 1956 in Lincoln, Kansas. The young couple established their first home together in Lincoln.

She is survived by her children, Annette Bowen and her husband Doug, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and Michael Brockway, of Jenks, Oklahoma; her brother, Lex Gislar and his wife Delores, of Ottawa, Kansas; her 2 grandchildren, Sarah Bowen and her husband Wes Rose and Elizabeth Bowen; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Earl “Bud” Brockway; and her sister, Phyllis Johnson.

Friends are invited to call on Friday, July 8, 2016 from 4 to 8 p.m. with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Glidden – Ediger Chapel, McPherson.

Funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church, McPherson, Kansas, at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 9th, 2016 with Reverend Andrew “Andy” Currier officiating.

Final resting place will be at the McPherson Cemetery McPherson, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church or Angel Arms and they can be sent in care of the Glidden – Ediger Funeral Home; 222 West Euclid Street; McPherson, Kansas 67460.

FUNERAL SERVICES: 2:30 P.M., Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at Sterling Community Cemetery.

OFFICIATING: Pastor Joel Grizzle BURIAL: Sterling Community Cemetery with military honors by the United States Air Force and the Sterling American Legion.

Hillsboro – Merlie A. Friesen, 86, died July 2, 2016 at Hillsboro Community Hospital in Hillsboro.  She was born April 30, 1930 in Balko, Oklahoma to Jonathan and Marie (Plenert) Ratzlaff.  She married Leonard K. Friesen April 10, 1949 in Balko, Oklahoma.  Survivors include: son, Lyle Friesen of Phoenix, Arizona; daughters, Lynette (David) Derstine of Perkasie, PA, Darla (Max) Flickinger of Afton, Oklahoma; brother, Kermit (Ruth) Ratzlaff of Hillsboro; sister, Irma Koop of Hillsboro; 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.  Preceded in death by her husband, Leonard K. Friesen in 2007.  Celebration of Life Service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at Parkview M.B. Church officiated by Pastor Steve Schroeder and Pastor Wilmer Thiessen.  Interment 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Gnadenau cemetery rural Hillsboro.  Memorials to Parkview or Hillsboro Senior Center in care of Jost Funeral Home P.O.
