wid60720vet_ffffffDavid J. C. Widner, 46, of Salina, passed away July 20, 2016. David was born in Lawton, Oklahoma, the son of the late David J. Widner and Dorothy D. Widner.

David is survived by his wife Elvia Ornelas, his son David, and siblings from Knoxville, TN. He will be missed by his Masonic brothers, Brothers in Arms, friends, and all of those who he touched throughout his life.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, July 29, at St. John’s Missionary Baptist Church. Time of remembrance will be Thursday, July 28, from 4-8 p.m. with Masonic Service by Salina Lodge #60 and Denver Star #34 at 7 p.m. at Ryan Mortuary.

dav60724Phyllis Jean Davis, 90, Salina, passed away on July 24, 2016. She was born in Lansing, Ks. on September 9, 1925 to Alfred and Ida (Treadwell) Hamrick. The family moved to Minneapolis where Phyllis graduated from Minneapolis High School. She married Kent Davis on March 11, 1944.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Kent, and six siblings; Fairy Anna, Wilma, Jacqueline, John, Arthur and Frank.

Phyllis is survived by her two children, Carolyn (Carry) Martin and son in law Larry, Salina, and son, Steven Davis and daughter in law Jo, Springfield, Mo. She has six grandchildren, Kelley Wallerius Drake (Lonny) , Jason Wallerius, Brice Davis, Corry Davis Gellner (Irvin) , Monica Martin and Amy Martin. She has nine great grandchildren; Benjamin Platten, Joseph Platten, Keegan Gellner, Logan Gellner, Rylee Jo Gellner, Connor Darnell, Carson Covey, Ethan Martin and Alex Stastny. She has one great great grandson, Carter Matheson and many nieces and nephews.

Phyllis was a homemaker and office assistant. She enjoyed music, golf, doll collecting and socializing.

She was generous, outspoken and known for her “words of wisdom” and contagious laugh. She was an active member of Ladies Elks and the Eastern Star.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, July 30, 2016 at Christ Cathedral Episcopal Church, Salina. Memorials are suggested to the church or Salina Presbyterian Manor.

5797e598a2517FLORENCE – Marjorie Anita Maltbie Osgood, age 80, entered her eternal rest on July 25, 2016, at Asbury Park, Newton.  She was born July 21, 1936, in Marion, the eldest daughter of Glenn Warren and Wilma Anita (Glasscock) Maltbie.

Marjorie was an avid cook and served many meals to hunters in the Homestead area.  She supported her children’s athletic activities through her kitchen, as well, by making pastries and doughnuts for the Friday night ball games at Chase County Middle and High Schools.  She was always up for a good game of cards, loved music, enjoyed her visits to the casinos, and making crafts.  Family always came first for Marge and she especially loved the little ones.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence Max Osgood; an infant son Warren Lee Albright; two daughters LaVerna Jean Chaney and Regina Rae Osgood; and five siblings:  Lois Krause, Joyce May, Edward, Alfred, and Marvin Maltbie.

She is survived by her children:  Theresa Danby (Brian) of Newton; Monica Graves (Michael) of Emporia; Connie Lang (William) of Topeka; Anita Hind (Michael) of Newton; Lawrence Osgood (Phyllis) of Cedar Point; and Michelle Nelson (Shane) of Cassoday; her siblings:  Charles Maltbie, Sr. of Beverly; and Bertha Parscal of El Dorado; her 20 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

The Visitation will be held from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m., Thursday evening at Zeiner Funeral Home, Marion.  The Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, July 29, 2016, at the Florence United Methodist Church.  Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery of Florence.

Delavan – Jesse L. (Pete) Bettles, 97, longtime resident of Delavan, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2016, at Diversicare of Council Grove.

He was born September 14, 1918, in Marion County, KS, the son of John and Martha (Wheatley) Bettles.  He graduated from Delavan High School in 1938.  He married Marjorie Platz, on September 2, 1941, in Lawrence. Jesse and Marjorie farmed their entire married lives. They raised three children: James, Juanita and Karen.

Jesse was a member of the Wilsey Christian Church.  He served several years on the Delavan Grade School Board of Education, a member of the Northeast Kansas Herford Association, the American Herford Association and the Morris County Fair Board.

Jesse treasured his family and spending time with them. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards and watching the Royals and Chiefs.   He loved farming, his pure bred cattle, and helping his brothers with farming or soil conservation work.  In his younger years, he played the guitar and harmonica for area barn dances. Pete loved to visit and will be missed by many.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marjorie, sister Martha, brothers Bryce and Orval. Also preceding him were his son-in-law Jim Harper, daughter-n-law Patricia Bettles, and grandson Steve Bettles.

Jesse is survived by his son James Bettles, of Enterprise; daughters Juanita Roberts and husband Kenny, of Council Grove and Karen Redding and husband Bud, of Waverly; 6 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and 3 sisters-in-law.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, July 28, 2016, at Wilsey Christian Church from 6:00 to 8:00pm.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00am, Friday, July 29th, also at Wilsey Christian Church.  Interment will follow at Delavan Cemetery.

Fannie K. Ingerick.jpegFannie K. Ingerick, 100, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 1:40 a.m., Tuesday, July 26th, 2016 in the company of family, at Pine Village, Moundridge, Kansas.

Fannie was born in Troy, Pennsylvania on April 7, 1916, a daughter of Ruby (Phillips) and George Ward Kittle.

Fannie attended the Granville Elementary School, Granville, Pennsylvania and graduated from Troy High School, Troy, Pennsylvania in 1933.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church McPherson, Kansas, where she was a member of the Challengers Sunday School Class and Sarah Circle.

Fannie was a homemaker and she took great pride in providing for her family in this manner. She also worked for her cousin who owned Phillips Bakery in Elmira Heights, New York and was a store clerk for Thoman’s Variety Store, McPherson, Kansas for several years. She was a member of the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary of McPherson and a member of the Order of Eastern Star of Elmira Heights, New York. Fannie enjoyed sewing and was a great seamstress, sports of all kinds and played basketball in high school, traveling, her family and grandchildren.

Fannie Elizabeth Kittle was united in marriage to Rexford Donald Ingerick on February 15, 1935 at Chemung, New York. Rex died on December 1, 1971.

Fannie is survived by her children, Rexford Ingerick, Jr. and his wife Ruth, of Nokomis, Florida, Sally Puchosic and her husband John, of McPherson, Kansas, and Jerry Ingerick and his wife Ann, of Woodbridge, Virginia; her 11 grandchildren, Rex Ingerick, III, Rene’e McQueen, RaeLynn Gonyea, Richard Ingerick, David Puchosic, Holly Puchosic, Sarah Godfrey, Mike Ingerick, Peter Ingerick, Monica Ingerick, and Becky Clifford; her 14 great-grandchildren, Heidi McWeeney, Rex Ingerick IV, J Michael McQueen, Mariah McQueen, Luke Gonyea, Daria Gonyea, Logan Puchosic, Henry Schordock-Puchosic, Richard Martinez, II, Oliver Godfrey, Cleo Ingerick, Jessa Ingerick, Kyle Ingerick, and Kira Clifford her 1 great-great-grandson Rex Ingerick V; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Fannie was preceded in death by her parents, George and Ruby Kittle; her husband, Rex Ingerick; a grandson, John Puchosic, Jr.; a brother, Ward Kittle; and her sisters, Marjorie Rumsey, Millicent Burnham, Doris McClure, and Jean Kennedy.

Friends are invited to call on Friday, July 29, 2016 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Glidden – Ediger Chapel, McPherson, Kansas.

The funeral service will be held at First United Methodist Church, McPherson, Kansas, at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 30, 2016 with Reverend Darren Frazier and Reverend Harold E. Nelson officiating.

The final resting place will be at the McPherson Cemetery McPherson, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, or Memorial Hospital Auxiliary or Pine Village and they can be sent in care of the Glidden – Ediger Funeral Home; 222 West Euclid Street; McPherson, Kansas 67460.

Martha Maxine Elder, 87, of Kingman, KS, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 26, 2016, at The Cedars, McPherson. She was a homemaker and farm wife.

Maxine was born on June 18, 1929, in Kingman County, one of 11 children born to Philip H. and Emma S. (Schroeder) Kaufman. She graduated from Kingman High School in 1947. On March 26, 1950, Maxine was united in marriage to Lawrence Dee Elder in Kingman. He preceded her in death on December 26, 2010.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Kingman.

Survivors include: daughter, Carla Williamson (Marc) of McPherson, KS; son, Glenn Elder of Lenexa, KS; brother, Phil Kaufman of Wichita, KS; two grandchildren Kylie Williamson (Molly) and Danon Williamson (Natalie); numerous nieces & nephews; and caregiver, Kaley Tiesmeyer of Kingman, KS.

She was preceded in death by: her parents, Philip and Emma Kaufman; husband, Dee Elder; daughter, Cristie Elder; and nine siblings.

The memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, July 29, 2016, at First Presbyterian Church in Kingman, KS with Rev. Dawn Flippin officiating. A private graveside service will be held at Hoosier Cemetery, Kingman.

579778f25d888Jack Eugene Hunter, 63 yrs. born August 23, 1952 in Lyons to Earle E. & Lucille Marie Blackburn Hunter, died on July 24, 2016 at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He was a lifetime resident of Lyons.  He had been an automotive repairman at Buell Motor, was a retired custodian for USD 405 School District and retired Park Place maintenance supervisor.  Jack graduated from Lyons High School with the class of 1970, he attended an automotive trade school in Wichita.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Deep Lake Fishing Club and Friday Night Mixers Bowling League all of Lyons.

On June 5, 1971 he married Connie Miller in Lyons, she survives, also surviving are 2 daughters, Jackie & Allen Moore, Lyons, Regina & Joe Kraft, Vandalia, MO.; 2 sisters, Paulette and Lew Twyford, Newton, Elaine & Fred Long, Lyons; 4 grandchildren, Micah & Kevin Waterlander, Savannah, GA., Rebekah Kraft, Jefferson City, MO., Brandi & Drew Otto, Lyons, Jeremy Kraft, Vandalia, MO.; great-grandchild, Jacob James Allen, Jefferson City, MO.. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, Nancy Hunter and Cheryl Blackburn.

Funeral Service will be 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at First Baptist Church, Lyons, with Pastor Joel Grizzle officiating.   Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons with the family present.

vet_ffffffVerle L. “Mike” Hunt, 86 born to Willis and Elvera Ingemanson Hunt, on August 9, 1929, died on July 26, 2016 at Rice County District Hospital, Lyons. He was a Lyons resident for 59yrs, formerly of Geneseo, He owned the Lyons Auto Supply since 1972. He graduated from Marquette High School in 1947, served in the United States Army during the Korean War.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Past President of Lyons Chamber of Commerce and was selected as the Lyons Chamber Citizen of the Year; helped to start Habitat ReStore; Boy Scout Leader; Little League Baseball announcer; 4-H Club Leader; Liars Fishing Club, all of Lyons

He married Betty L. Duke on September 9, 1952 at Cottonwood Falls, Ks., she survives, also surviving 2 Sons, Mark & DeDra Hunt, Lyons, Craig & Toni Hunt, Webster Grove, Mo.; Daughter, Brenda & Gary Pennington, Meade, Ks.; 6 Grandchildren, Olivia Hunt, Marcy & Tony Lynn, Aaron & Emily Pennington, Meghan Hunt, Eric Hunt, Kimberly Hunt; 4 Great-Grandchildren, Vincent Lynn, Samuel Lynn, Laura Lynn, Whitney Pennington. Preceded in death by Sister, Marilyn Parker, Brother, Marlin Hunt.

Funeral Service will be 10:00 A.M., Friday, July 29, 2016 at United Methodist Church, Lyons with Pastor Kim Shank officiating.

Visitation will be 2:00 to 7:00 P.M., Thursday, July 28, 2016 at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons with family present from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M.,

Burial in Lyons Municipal Cemetery with Military Honors by Ft. Riley Honor Guard. Memorials are suggested to United Methodist Church, Habitat ReStore or Hospice of Reno County in care of the funeral home.
