Helen Maxine (Mayo) Graves, 92, Centennial, CO, passed away peacefully at Littleton Adventist Hospital in Littleton, CO on March 17, 2013. She was born on August 27, 1920 in Ottawa County, Kansas to Bruce Driskell Mayo and Elnora Pitts Mayo. She graduated from Salina High School in 1938. On November 6, 1940 she married William Henry Graves in Salina, KS. He preceded her in death on March 18, 2005. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Bruce Mayo, Jr. and Leonard Eugene Mayo.
She is survived by her daughter, Martha Graves Reese (Mark C. Reese) of Greenwood Village, CO and son William Preston Graves (Linda Richey Graves) of McLean, VA and her three grandchildren, Rachel Elizabeth Reese, Denver, CO, Garrett Adam Reese, Bozeman, MT, and Katherine Preston Graves, McLean, VA. She is also survived by five nieces and nephews: Nancy Leeanne Mayo, Lubbock, TX; Betty Jean Mayo Wilsie, Ft. Worth, TX; Ernest Bruce Mayo, Lincoln, CA; Steven Harold Mayo, Auburn, CA and Theresa Helene Mayo Molossi, Daly City, CA.
While in Salina, she was active in many organizations. She served on the boards of Asbury Hospital, United Way, Saline County Cancer Society, Kansas Wesleyan Foundation and the YWCA. She was a member of Chapter ED PEO. She was a lifetime member of First United Methodist Church and a member of the Salina Country Club. She was active in the Republican Party and most proud of her son who served as a two-term Governor of the state of Kansas. She was a shining light in the city of Salina both in her volunteer activities and her philanthropy. Her latest endeavor was the W. H. and Helen M. Graves Blood Platelet Center which was dedicated in August 2007.
Helen moved to Centennial, CO in 2007 and lived at the Holly Creek Retirement Community. She enjoyed all the many activities and met many new friends as well as reconnected with a high school classmate. She enjoyed her time with her grandchildren and was very involved in their lives.
A visitation will be held at Ryan Mortuary, 137 North Eighth Street, Salina, KS on Monday, March 25 from 10:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. The family will greet guests from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. The funeral will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 122 North Eighth Street on Tuesday, March 26 at 2:00 p.m. with a graveside service to follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, 1920 East Crawford, Salina, KS.

Norma “Jean” Copeland died March 13, 2013, at Kansas University Medical Center. She was born Dec. 30, 1924, in Coffeyville to Earl R. and Dollie M. (Young) Ford. On Jan. 10, 1942, she married James Franklin Copeland. He preceeded her in death Oct. 28, 1986. Her parents and sister, Peggy Swanson, also preceeded her in death.
She was a member of Mullinville U.M. Church in Mullinville, and Trinity U.M. Church in Salina. She lived in several Kansas towns as a young girl, as her father was a minister in the United Brethren conference: Kimball, Fort Scott, Wichita West Side and then Mullinville, where she met Frank. Together they raised their family of three sons and three daughters on the family farm that Frank’s parents built and raised their family.
Jean worked as a secretary and bus driver for Mullinville Grade School, as bookkeeper for Greensburg Equipment and Hildinger Lumber in Greensburg, and lastly as bookkeeper for her son Rod at his optometric practice in Dodge City. Jean was an office volunteer for Hospice of Salina.
She is survived by her children: Vic (Joyce) Copeland, of Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., Greg (Karen) Copeland, of Sylvan Grove, Linda (Gregg) Gilmer, of Salina, Kathy (Tom) Stickney, of Olathe, Nancy (Donovan) Lee, of Lawrence, Rod (Patti) Copeland, of Dodge City; and her beloved 21 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service to honor Jean’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 22, 2013, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Salina.
Private family graveside ceremony on Saturday, March 23, 2013, at Hillcrest Cemetery, Mullinville.

Carolyn Jo Jaster, 58, of Salina, died Friday, March 15, 2013. She was born March 4, 1955, in Kinsley. A graduate of Pratt High School, she attended Friends Bible College, Haviland, one year then graduated from Wesley School of Nursing in 1976.
Carolyn was a beautiful woman of God, pursuing Him in studying His word and in service to her family and all those she met. She was first a wonderfully nurturing mother and loving wife, but also an invaluable co-worker with her spouse, Paul, in their shared love of teaching/medical work in Tanzania, Kenya, the horn of Africa and the intervening years of work in the U.S. She will be remembered and greatly missed for her gentle nature, kind spirit, love and hospitality to others. She loved homeschooling, Bible studies and Moms in Touch prayer groups, and even started groups in Kenya. Philippians 4:4-9 describes her well. She shared the gospel with her life.
Though not a smoker, her life was ended after seven months of battling lung cancer without complaining. Her family is consoled knowing that she is now truly home with our precious Savior, Jesus Christ.
Surviving: spouse, Dr. Paul; children, Christina, Joseph, Emily, Ben and Sarah; parents, Fred and Drula McKinney; and brother, Dwain. Preceded in death by her sister, Dianne.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 22, at First Covenant Church, 2625 E Magnolia, Salina.

Chester L. “Chet” Chestnut, 67, of Salina, passed away Sunday. March 17, 2013. He was born Dec. 12, 1945.
Preceded in death by: parents, Calvin and Elizabeth; brother, J.C.; and grandson, Timothy.
Survivors: wife, Noeline; son, Darryl, of Salina; daughters, Traci Driscoll (Cliff), of Plattsmouth, Neb., and Heather Haskos (Spiro), of Omaha, Neb.; stepdaughter, Tina Zahn (Nathan), of Wichita; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers; and one sister.
Memorial: 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 21, at Grand Ave United Methodist Church, Salina.

Justin Gabriel Baier, 34, of Salina, passed away Monday, March 18th.
Justin was born in Ft. Riley, Kansas on July 27, 1978, to Harold R. Baier and the late Madeline A. (Lindsay) Baier.
Justin was a high school graduate. He worked on the line at El Dorado Bus in Salina.
Justin is survived by his father Harold and stepmother Pat Baier; sisters, Jennifer (Duce) McConnell, of Wichita, Kansas, Debi (Cary) Holcomb, of Manhattan, KS, and Amanda Foust, of Salina; brothers, Daryl Baier, of Salina, and Bryan Baier, of Salina; sons, Gabriel, Abram, and Deacon Baier, all of Salina; and his daughter, Madeline Baier, of Salina.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
A memorial service will be held at Carlson-Geisendorf Funeral Home, at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 22nd, with Pastor Ron Bowell officiating.
At the family’s request there will be no visitation.

Patsy JoAnn Weir, 77, of Wakefield, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, March 19th, at Salina Regional Health Center.
JoAnn was born in Rural Clay County, Kansas on April 10, 1935, to the late Mildred (McNeil) and Harold Stoneback.
She married William Weir on January 9, 1952 in Clay Center, Kansas.
JoAnn was the office manager and co-owner of Weir Machine Works, which she operated with her husband William. She was also a past member of the Wakefield chapter of The Order of the Eastern Star.
JoAnn is survived by a daughter, Rita, wife of Bill Caley, of Wakefield, Kansas; three sons Dan, husband of Louanne Weir, of Clay Center, Kansas; Sam, husband of Joyce Weir, of Wakefield, Kansas; Randy, husband of Tracy Weir, of Wakefield, Kansas; 10 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one sister.
Cremation has been selected and services will be announced at a later date.
