Lowell Duane Williams, 86, of Galva, Kansas, passed away at 10:44 a.m., Wednesday, November 29th, 2017 surrounded by his family, at Cedars Health Care Center, McPherson.
Lowell was born in McPherson, Kansas on July 28, 1931, a son of Phoebe Johanna Beatrice (Aelmore) and Ernest Raymond Williams.
Lowell attended Good Hope country school, rural Galva, Salina Central High School his freshman year, and graduated from Galva High School, Galva, Kansas in 1949.
He was a member of Galva Christian Church Galva, Kansas where he served as a Deacon and Trustee and in other capacities through the years.
Lowell honorably served in the U.S. Air Force in the Korean War.
Through the years Lowell was a farmer and rancher, delivered eggs for the Knacksteads, worked for BS & B Tank Company as a heavy equipment operator, Kit Manufacturing as a screener, owned and operated Williams Bait Shop, drove school bus, road maintainer for Battle Hill Township, and owned and worked at Galva Lumber.
Lowell was a member of the Galva Lions Club, Lifetime member of the Galva American Legion, served on the Canton Galva School Board, Soil Conservation Board, Battle Hill Township Board, Farmers State Bank Board, Empire Cemetery Board, and numerous other community boards and organizations.
Lowell enjoyed hunting, fishing, telling stories, wood working, gardening, spending time out-of-doors, and spending time with his family and many friends.
Lowell D. Williams was united in marriage to LaVonne F. Smith on April 9, 1954, at Groveland Christian Church, Groveland, Kansas. The young couple established their first home together on a farm in rural Galva, Kansas.
He is survived by his children, Carol Gross and her husband Stan, of Sun Lakes, Arizona, Wayne Williams and his wife Valerie, of Galva, Kansas, Diana Koehn and her husband Tim, of Galva, Kansas, and Raymond Williams, of Galva, Kansas; his sister, Phyllis Peterson, of McPherson, Kansas; his 9 grandchildren, Jeff Gross and wife Allison, Mike Gross and wife Holly, Stacey Nyquist and husband Mark, Jamie Colgin and husband Kenneth, Brandon Koehn, Sheri Thompson and husband Chris, Lynn Nightingale and husband Aaron, Shane Williams, Shannon Wescott and husband Matt, his 8 great-grandchildren, Carter and Keira Gross, Nate and Macy Nyquist, Deacon Colgin, Koby Koehn, Lillian Nightingale, and Chace Wescott; other relatives and a host of friends.
Lowell was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife LaVonne Williams.
A memorial service will be held at the Galva Christian Church, Galva, Kansas, at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 3rd, 2017 with Reverend Tripp Edwards officiating.
Burial will be at the Empire Cemetery Galva, Kansas.
Military honors will be performed by American Legion Post 24 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2715.
