Kenneth L. Morrison, 93, of Hastings, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015, at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings.
The youngest of four children, Kenneth L. Morrison was born in Roxbury, Kan., on Feb. 8, 1921, to Lloyd and Alta Morrison. Along with his brother Milton and sisters Lorene and Mildred, Ken started working on the family farm at an early age. That gave him a lifelong interest in agriculture, a field in which he proved to be very intuitive, dedicated and successful.
In 1947, decommissioned government land for lease led him to Hastings, where he made his base of operations for (mostly) agricultural endeavors that spanned the globe—from Louisiana to Washington state, Chile to Guatemala, Malaysia to Brunei. Ken approached all of his business pursuits with the same fearless energy and thoroughly enjoyed all of his endeavors as well as the people he met along the way. Business was his whole life, and many people benefited from his success.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie (Anderson) Morrison; brother, Milton Morrison; sister, Lorene Moore; and parents, Lloyd and Alta (Burch) Morrison.
He is survived by his sister, Mildred Sebree, of Salina, Kan.; his daughter, Susan Roberts, and his granddaughter, Gretchen Roberts, both of Phoenix.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9, at French Memorial Chapel, Hastings College Campus, with Dr. Thomas Reeves officiating. Additional parking will be in the arena parking lot, and a shuttle will be provided to French Memorial Chapel. A reception will follow at Lochland Country Club, Hastings.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, Jan. 8, at the funeral home. Additional visitation will be held from noon-2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, at Ryan Mortuary, Salina. Private family interment will follow in Valley View Cemetery, Roxbury.
If you choose to give a memorial in Kenneth’s name, the family asks that you do so to a charity of your choice. Private condolences may be sent to the family at www.lbvfh.com. Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Hastings, is serving the family.
