vet_ffffffand60301Tom Andrews, 84, passed away peacefully at home in Salina on Tuesday morning, March 1, surrounded by his loving family.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Norma Jean; daughter, Julie (Jim) Jones, of Spring Hill; son, Marvin (Lynell). of Calhan, Colo.; son Gary (Sally) of Hillsboro; grandchildren, Autum (Tony) Benedict, of Olathe, Jaron (Joleen) Andrews of Lakewood, Colo., Carly (Bill) Kirkpatrick of Albuquerque, N.M., Gina (John) Bergin, of Maple Hill, and Lora Andrews, of Winfield; and great-grandchildren, Jake and Tyler Benedict, Virgil Andrews and Andy Bergin.

Tom was preceeded in death by his parents, Eva and Ross Andrews; brothers, Ross, Bill and Bob; sisters, Fern, Myrtle and Ivagene; and grandsons, Brian Jones and Shea Andrews.

Tom was a proud American and a Korean War veteran, as well as a life member of the VFW. He was a golf course superintendent for 35 years and a life member of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America, Kansas Golf Course Superintendent’s Association and Kansas Turfgrass Foundation. He served many years on the Southeast of Saline School Board and was a farmer.

Tom and Norma Jean enjoyed traveling the United States and only had five states they had not visited. They were avid dancers with the Jolly Mixers for 23 years and were still active with the Gypsum Go-Getters Senior Dinners.

Visitation will be Friday, March 4, from 4-8 p.m. at Ryan Mortuary, with family greeting visitors from 6-8.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Ryan Mortuary, with burial following in Roselawn Cemetery. Memorials are to Hospice of Salina.

Helen-Gray-1457004552Helen Josephine Gray, 94, of Salina, passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2016.

Helen was born in Wells, Kansas on February 13, 1922, to the late Lillian (Jordan) and Harry Drake.

Helen married Jack Gray on November 11, 1945, at Salina First United Methodist Church. He passed away in 2008.

Survivors include her daughter, Debra Jones, and her husband Carl, of Salina; son, Don Gray, and his wife Lauren, of Aurora, Colorado; as well as grandchildren, Carrie Parker, Adrian Pollock, and Kristina Moulden; and great grandchildren, Emma Parker, Zakery Parker, McKaila Pollock, Kylie Pollock, and Caylynn Pollock.

She is preceded in death by her brothers, Francis Drake and Donald E. Drake; and sister, Thelma Crawford.

The family will receive friends on Sunday 1:00 – 4:00 at Carlson – Geisendorf Funeral Home, Salina.

Funeral service will be held at Carlson-Geisendorf Funeral Home, at 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 7th. Interment will follow at Bennington Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Salina, 730 Holly Lane, Salina, Kansas 67401.

Merle D. Stout

81, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family Wednesday, March 2nd, in Salina. He was born November 5, 1934 near Longford, the son of Stanley T. and Grace L. (Young) Stout. Growing up in the area, Merle attended local schools and graduated from Longford High School with the class of 1952. On August 19, 1954 he married Bernice E. Deines. Most all of their married life was spent in Abilene. Merle had been employed as an over the road trucker for Bailey Truck Line, Ehrsham’s Manufacturing, Green Ford and Yellow Freight Transit before retiring in 1993. Bernice preceded him in death August 24, 2013. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, hunting, fishing and reading Louis L’Amour. Merle was also preceded by his parents; two sisters, Dora Gasswint and Eva Moses and two brothers, Stanley and Eugene Stout. He was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church and the Teamsters.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, March 5th, at the Faith Lutheran Church with Rev. Justin Panzer officiating. Interment will follow in the Rose Meron Cemetery north of Longford. The family will receive friends 6:30 – 7:30 PM at the Danner Funeral Home. The family suggests memorial contributions in his name be made to the Faith Lutheran Church. They may be left at the church the day of the service or left at or sent in care of the Danner Funeral Home POB 758 Abilene, Kansas 6410.

Robert Francis Didde was born October 17, 1923 to Frank J. and Clara (Strutzel) Didde at Nortonville, KS and passed away on February 27, 2016 at the age of 92 years, 4 months, and 10 days at Belleville, KS.
When he was two years old his parents moved to a farm near Olpe, KS where he attended school and as a young man farmed.
On October 25, 1952 he married LaDonna Breen of Miltonvale, KS at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Miltonvale. They farmed in the Miltonvale area and he also did odd jobs.
In September 1962 they moved to Belleville, KS where he was employed with NCK Electric Cooperative as an electrician for 5 ½ years after which he went into the electrical and TV sales and service business for himself, operating Didde TV & Electric with the help of his wife, LaDonna.
Robert was a 3rd degree member of Knights of Columbus Council # 2609 and served as a lector at St. Edwards Catholic Church for many years. He was a member of the Republic County Czech Club and a member of a local card club
Robert was preceded in death by wife LaDonna, his parents and one brother-in-law Kenneth Scheetz.
He is survived by one son Mark and wife Dana of Longmont, CO two daughters Elaine and husband Dan Scanlon, Karen and husband Larry Dinsmore of Longmont, CO, Four grandchildren Christian Scanlon, Rose Scanlon, Shawn Didde and Tyler Didde, two brothers Arthur (Sally) Didde of Burnsville, MN, John (Sabrina Rasa) Didde of Overland Park, KS, three sisters Marcella (Howard) Anderson, Topeka, KS, Maybelle Scheetz, Topeka KS and Rosalie (Jim) Schetter of Tiffin, OH, other relatives and many friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, March 5, 2016 at St. Edward’s Catholic Church, Belleville, KS with Fr. Brian Lager, celebrant.
Interment will be at St. Katherine’s Catholic Cemetery, rural Belleville, KS.
A Vigil/Rosary will be held at 6:00 PM Friday, March 4, 2016 at the Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Belleville, KS.
Visitation will be from One PM until 9PM on Thursday and from 9 AM until 9 PM on Friday at the funeral home.

150x215-4077829Joyce Lucille (Bennett) Cunningham Brumitt passed away Thursday, March 3, 2016 in Plainville, Kansas at the age of 79. She was born on February 8, 1937 in Webster City, Iowa to Victor Jacob and Mildred (Lester) Bennett. One of eleven children, she married Bruce Cunningham in 1957. To that marriage three children were born, Nancy Jo, Daniel Bruce, and Brynda June. Bruce died in May 1961 in a trucking accident. Joyce “Jo” then married Duane “Wimp” Brumitt and Cynthia “Cindy” Marie was born.

Jo was an active woman enjoying the Rocky Mountains for snowmobiling in the winter and fishing in the summer. The mountains also served as an inspiration many of the paintings she so beautifully created. She painted and wallpapered many homes in the Plainville area, getting to know almost everyone in town. She had previously worked at the nursing home and enjoyed taking care of the residents. She was very patriotic and was active in the VFW Auxiliary.

Jo is survived by three children Nancy Austin and husband Terry of Plainville, Daniel Cunningham and wife Charlene of Plainville, and Brynda Hayes and husband Greg of Ellsworth; brothers Marion, David, Paul, and Ben Bennett; ten grandchildren David Herl, Libby and Shannon Becker, Jacob and Danielle Herl, Jonathan and Jessica Hayes, Haley and Chris Lemman, Rachel and Bo Snider, Joshua Cunningham, Lacci and Michael Hayes, Derek and Kylea Brumitt, and Shanaya Brumitt; nineteen great-grandchildren; best friend Donna Gager; and a multitude of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Victor and Mildred Bennett, husbands Bruce Cunningham and Duane “Wimp” Brumitt, daughter Cynthia “Cindy” (Brumitt) Cox, and granddaughter Jennifer Herl Benedick.

Jo was a woman of faith, hope, and love. She lived everyday of her life showing family, friends, and neighbors, that the greatest of these was love. She will remain in our hearts forever because of the love she had for us, and how much we loved her.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30pm on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at First Christian Church in Plainville. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00pm on Friday at the funeral home with family receiving friends from 6:00-7:30. A second visitation will be from 9:00-noon on Saturday at the funeral home.
