ThumbnailCarolyn Yvonne (Idleman) Brummer passed away Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at her home in Plainville, Kansas at the age of 81. She was born on July 25, 1935 in Woodston, Kansas to the late Verl and Vera (Miller) Idleman. She grew up in Rooks County, Kansas and graduated from Stockton High School with the Class of 1953. On December 29, 1956 she was united in marriage to Tony Brummer in Hill City, Kansas. Together, they worked side by side, raising their family and owning and operating the TacoExpress in Plainville for over 30 years.

Carolyn had a creative and artistic spirit. From sewing and cross stitching to gardening and painting, her heart overflowed with love and she always reflected that beauty in the world around her. She also enjoyed reading and, of course, jigsaw puzzles; but only those of a thousand pieces or more, because any less was just for beginners.

Carolyn loved to travel, especially when she had opportunity to spend time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Through the years, she saved everything they gave her or made for her, large or small, and never forgot to send little blessings of love to each of them on birthdays and holidays. Indeed, her family was truly the joy and love of her life.

Carolyn is survived by her husband Tony Brummer of their home in Plainville; daughters Connie Pulley and husband Tony of Amarillo, TX, Tonya Wise and fiancé Bryan Thom of Ellsworth, Karen Werner and husband Rick of Plainville, and Sheri Workman and husband Tim of Dodge City; grandchildren Jessica Wise, Tiffany Parsons, Hannah Crites, Katrina Pulley, Paul Pulley, Jeremy Werner, Brandon Werner, Heather Padilla, Wendi Workman, and Weston Workman; and great-grandchildren Dennis Deiser, Grace Betts, Callen Parsons, Beckett Parsons, Lily Solis, Charlotte Crites, Alana Padilla, Trey Padilla, Taylor Padilla, and Brayden Werner.

She was preceded in death by her parents Verl and Vera Idleman, son Daniel Brummer, sister Jackie Thayer, and son-in-law Dennis Wise.

It is written, “Blessed are the pure in the heart, for they shall see God.” Carolyn showed us by example how to love beyond words. The love and purity of her heart allowed us to see not only the grace of our mother and grandmother, but the grace of God in whose presence she now glories forever.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00am on Friday, August 5, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Plainville. Burial will follow at the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00-4:00pm on Thursday at the funeral home with Ladies Guild Rosary at 3:00pm. Hannah Maria Thomas went to her heavenly home on August 4, 2016 at 4:40 am following a long battle with the BEAST, called cancer. Her final days were spent at home so she could be close to her family and the animals she loved so much.

Hannah was born in Hays, KS October 29, 2004. She is the 6th child of Ward and Tanya (Bohacz) Thomas. Her 5 brothers, Ean, Nathan, Shiloh, Mario, and Gabriel; 2 sisters, Lucretia and Natalee; and her precious dog, Jubilee, survive her.

Hannah’s spirit touched many at the hospitals across the country that she visited, camps she attended, and community events she participated in. Her strong and courageous spirit is a testament to our Lord’s Word – “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous, do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9

Hannah’s life was a gift to us from our loving God. He created her with an outstanding love and appreciation of animals. She cherished her hogs, rabbits, goats, chickens, ducks, and most importantly her calves that she bought and raised under her business name HT Livestock. She loved her time being a 4-H member and showing at the county fair. Hannah loved to hunt with her daddy and anyone else who would allow her to tag along. Hannah also enjoyed spending time at the lake with her family boating, tubing and camping. She loved to watch cooking shows with her brothers and bake. She was a Dallas Cowboy fan and dreamed of attending Kansas State University to study Animal Science to pursue her life dream of being a rancher’s wife.

Hannah’s battle with cancer began December 18, 2009. She was diagnosed with Wilms Tumor, a rare pediatric kidney cancer. It accounts for about 5% of all childhood cancers. Wilms tumor occurs most often in young children between the ages of 3 and 4. It is uncommon after age 6. Only 4% of cancer research in the United States is given to pediatric cancers. We ask that you join us in finding the cure that takes 7 children every day from their families.

A funeral service will be held Sunday, August 7, 2016 at the Town Site Shelter at Webster State Park at 4:00 P.M. with Pastor Tim Clever officiating. Visitation will be held Saturday, 1:00 to 3:00 P.M. at Plumer-Overlease Funeral Home in Stockton. Private interment will be in Bethany Cemetery near Hunter, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent in care of Plumer-Overlease Funeral Home, 723 N. 1st, Stockton, KS 67669, to:

Pablove Foundation: A pediatric cancer foundation that provides research grant monies for one of the clinical trials that Hannah was on and gave her extra days with us.

HT Livestock Memorial Scholarship Fund: A Scholarship fund available for Rooks, Mitchell, and Phillips Counties senior ladies attending Kansas State University pursuing a degree in Animal Science.

Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.plumeroverlease.com

ber60803LINDSBORG — Betty Faye (Gates) Berggren, 87, of Lindsborg, passed into God’s promised heavenly home Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2016, at Bethany Home. She was born July 25, 1929, in the farm home of Earl and Faye (Hormel) Gates nine miles south of Anthony, KS. In 1936, her parents moved the family to a two-story brick home built by her father and other relatives on the west side of Anthony, so they would live closer to the high school, and where her family sold eggs and milk from the family dairy to townspeople.

Betty was a piano teacher, organist, and pastor’s wife. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Lindsborg, the same church where she and Wendell Berggren had been married on February 2, 1951. She was a graduate of Anthony High School, May, 1947, and of Bethany College in Lindsborg, May, 1951. Betty and Wendell spent that summer at Bethphage Mission in Axtell, NE, and the following year at the Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis, MN. In the fall of 1952, Wendell entered Augustana Seminary at Rock Island, Il. During their four years there, Betty and Wendell had three children, Gerald, Naomi, and Mara.

After ordination in 1956, the family moved to Ong, NE, where they served until 1960. During this time, Erik joined the family. Then they moved to North Platte, NE, where they served until 1965. Their third and longest call brought them to Glasco, KS, and also their last child, James. In 1980 they moved to Dunlap, IA, and in 1988, Wendell retired from full-time ministry, and the family moved to Assaria, KS, in 1989. Betty began teaching piano in 1947 and continued until 1989, when she retired from teaching piano.

She was an avid gardener, loved good music, played piano, organ, and viola, and immersed herself in genealogy, spending countless hours looking through documents, writing letters, visiting homesteads, family churches, and grave yards. She loved the Lutheran Church, and she enjoyed reminding Wendell that Martin Luther was German. She was an adventurous cook, in spite of a fall from a horse in childhood which left her without a sense of smell or taste. She had a great memory. She remembered birthdays, baptisms, and anniversaries, not only of her family and friends, but extended family as well. She took time to write beautiful letters and thoughtful cards, and clipped newspaper articles or comics to include in them. She adored watching ice skaters and was still going on hikes well into her 70s.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband Wendell, brother Robert, sister Marie, sister-in-law Grace, and brother-in-law Dean. She is survived by son Gerald and wife Brenda Berggren and daughter Naomi and husband Dirk Durant, all of Lindsborg, daughter Mara and husband Larry Peterson of Ceresco, NE, son Erik and wife Cheri Berggren of Topeka, and son James and wife Connie Berggren of Lenexa; grandchildren Lars, Anders, Nels (Audrey), and Vins Berggren, Earl (Crystal) and Carl (Marin) Peterson, Kensy (Bryant) Byers and Quinton (Jami) Berggren, and Harrison and Jonah Berggren; great grandchildren Wilson and Ethan Peterson, and Wyatt and Atticus Peterson; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Memorial services will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, August 13, 2016, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Lindsborg, with inurnment of Wendell’s and Betty’s ashes following at 3:30 PM at the Walsburg Cemetery, Leonardville, KS. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to MOSAIC (formerly Bethphage Mission), care of Ryan Mortuary, 137 N 8th, Salina 67401.
